Bars and Pubs
It’s all very well having great restaurants and places to eat out – but what about bars and pubs, for having a pint or glass of wine?
There are plenty of options – so here goes:
Bars
Locally in St Merryn, the Dog House can be found sandwiched between the Farmers Arms and Rosel and Co. It’s a good fun bar when full, or good for a relaxed drink when quiet. There is an outside area – where BBQs are held, particularly on a Monday night. Run by Maxine and Mike. Give them a ring to see whats on – 01841 521561
In Padstow, the enoteca wine shop Bin Two is great for a glass of wine before a meal out - located just back from the harbour – 01841 532022. Or just opposite, across The Drang, you can find the Basement Cafe and Bar. We have enjoyed a very nice glass of Prosecco here, with a choice of inside or outside seating – 01841 532846
The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay is good for a cold beer.
Many of the restaurants have bars also (a drink at St Petrocs is always fun!), but more focused around those eating – give them a go for a cocktail or nice glass of crisp sparkling wine!
Pubs
The pubs in the local area do brisk business in food – but where is best for a drink?
Not looking always to support Mr Stein, but the main bar and the outside areas at The Cornish Arms are great for a drink – but beware the crowds. It can be found just outside St Merryn on the road to Padstow – 01841 520288.
The Harlyn Inn just behind the beach at Harlyn is busy with eating – but is also great for a few pints and a game of pool on a quiet evening – 01841 520207
The Tredrea Inn overlooking the beach at Porthcothan has recently been improved, and now enjoys a fantastic decking terrace with great views. Its perfect for a few drinks into the afternoon, or some early evening relaxation – 01841 520450
Trevone’s local pub the Well Parc is good for a drink with plenty of organised activity likely to be going on. There is a pool table, and great views from the terrace out front. Quite fun for a quiet night – 01841 520318
The Farmers Arms in St Merryn has its group of regulars clustered around the bar – with plenty of room for large groups. There is often live music in the evenings – 01841 520303.
Or if you are in Padstow, and looking for a respite from shopping, its often fun to stop for a while for a drink. On Landadwell Street, you have the choice of Padstow’s most traditional pubs: The Golden Lion and the The London Inn. Take your pick for for a slice of real Padstow flavour. Of ocurse on the harbour side, there are also options at The ShipWrights round the far side on North Quay, or The Old Custom House or the Harbour Inn.
I feel there is plenty more research to be done! Please add your comments and reviews below!
