Going to The Beach

We’re sure you don’t need many tips on getting to the beach – but below are some thoughts on where to park and what options you have!

Beach-by-beach, here are some thoughts – please add some of your own at the bottom:

Porthcothan

The car park at the back of the beach provides easy parking. It is left down at beach level off the B road on the way towards Newquay. The beach can be found across the road, along a sandy path and over the small dunes. Porthcothan Stores can be found here – selling ice creams and other essentials for the beach.

At low tide the beach opens up round to the left/south side. Here there are plenty of caves and rock stacks. Following the coast path around further south, you can find the Trescore Islands – a bit of the Caribbean in North Cornwall.

Treyarnon

The car park at the back of the beach makes the trip to the beach quite easy. there is no public parking on the south (Trethias) side. Gary’s beach shop provides all you need and more. If coming by bus or being dropped, you can walk down through the camp site to Treyarnon from Constantine Stores and Trevose Golf Club in about 10 minutes – much less than by road. Constantine beach is also very close – about 5 minutes walk across the open and flat headland between the two beaches.

Constantine

Constantine is reached via the beach road down from Constantine Bay Stores. At the bottom is a small free car park – making it rare to find a space (some will always try – including me!). Near the bottom you can turn into a summer car park on the right. From the bottom of the road just walk on along a rough track to get to the south end of Constantine. You can take a path from the little car park round and over the dunes for fun, and can walk down a small path from the corner of Trevose Golf Club to the dunes as well.

The dunes at the back of Constantine areĀ  a good feature, but are a protected habitat. You can walk the full length of Constantine to reach Booby’s and Trevose Head beyond.

Booby’s

There is no easy parking for Booby’s – except in summer a field is set over for parking half way up Trevose Head. Don’t be tempted to park along the golf course lane down to Booby’s Bay Cottage and the 3 other houses – clamping is in force and you are taking quite a risk. The main sand beach is covered for 3 or 4 hours at high tide. The rock pools and climbing is great all around the top of the beach.

Harlyn

There is plenty of parking at the Padstow end of Harlyn – with a bottom garvel car park and a pleasant field above. Both have good views of the beach – and steps down. The walk down to the far end of Harlyn takes a little well – but its worth it.

Trevone

The car park at Trevone is right alongside the main sandy beach, and there is an overflow round the back of the beach at peak times. The beach shop on the edge of the car park provides rental and sale of surfing and beach gear. Remember Newtrain beach also – a dog friendly rocky beach round the front of Trevone. There is a natural swimming pool cut into the rocks and plenty of fun to be had in the pools.
