Little Towan has an interesting and well-considered feeling throughout – touches of style and elegance have been included during its refurbishment, making the house a great place to stay and return to. The large open-plan living space provides plenty of comfortable seating for 8, as well as separated areas for all to have their own quiet time away from the throng. The French/sliding doors, from both the main living room and the kitchen, really open up the house to the private rear garden – giving a great sense of light and open space when the weather is warm.
Stripped pine doors and original fireplaces, and the mainly white, simple paintwork enhance the atmosphere and little touches of style through the bedrooms make for a really special and ‘cared-for’ feel. Enjoy your home away from home!
All 4 bedrooms are upstairs at Little Towan. At the top of the stairs, the carpeted landing runs to your right, with large windows giving views down to the garden below. Long pine storage cupboards run under the window, and the model sailing boats and historic seaside posters give a jolly and colourful feeling.
Opposite the windows, stripped pine double doors open up to the main bedroom. There is a king sized bed with bedside table and lamp, as well as a painted chest of drawers and wardrobe. A large radiator positioned under the windows ensures you are warm – with views across open countryside to the sea. And blackout-lined curtains are perfect for well-deserved lie-ins! Exposed beams and the black painted fireplace create a great cottage atmosphere.
The 2nd king size room is next door. Again, views across countryside and headland dominate the room, while inside there is a small flat screen TV with integrated DVD provided for a touch of luxury and decadence. This TV can be moved to a separate aerial point in the bunk room if the children demand! There are bedside tables and lamps on both sides of the bed, and open shelving and a wardrobe for your clothes.
Across the landing is the twin room, benefitting from a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden. Plenty of light and soft, neutral colours make for a lovely feel to this bedroom. There is plenty of shelving and a wardrobe for your clothes.
Back to the stairs and around to the back of the house is where the bunk bed room can be found. The room has been furnished again with imagination and style – set off by the fun arrangement of ‘wellies’ along the shelf – we hope they won’t be needed during your stay! A stripped pine chest of drawers provides storage for your little ones’ shorts and tea-shirts. There is an aerial point in this bedroom as well – the small TV can easily be moved in here to provide the children with their own entertainment space if required. A ‘truckle’ bed is stored under the bunk beds – although not normally made-up, this allows occasional sleeping for another child if needed – but please do confirm this is needed in advance.
There are 2 bathrooms on the 1st floor as well as the ‘wet-room’ shower in the rear utility off the garden. The main bathroom has a large oval bath tub with a shower over. The room has a nice, light and airy feel. Along the landing is the shower room – with a large rectangular shower tray, wooden floors and a jolly white and blue colour theme.
Accessed from the garden there is also a utility area, with a large 3rd shower – perfect for showering off sand from the beach, or if your fellow guests are enjoying the other bathrooms too much!
- Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen is found at the back of the house, with large double sliding doors leading out to the back garden. There is a long wooden table with ample space to dine in style for your whole party. The kitchen has been thoughtfully laid out and furnished – long wooden worktops and open shelves below, attractive pine shelf rack on the wall, and plenty of space around the cooker for chopping and preparation.
The antique dolls house provides an interesting focal point as well as storage for glasses, and helps to give the kitchen a really warm and inviting feel.
The living space is largely open-plan, laid out with two interconnecting rooms both furnished in an attractive and useful way. Coming into the house, you enter directly into the living room, with seating provided by a 2-seater sofa and 2 grey tub chairs. The Victorian fireplace draws your eye, and is perfectly placed to make this room a warm place to relax away from the television, while still perhaps providing encouragement to the cooks of your party in the kitchen!
Arches on either side of the fireplace lead through into large living area. Here there are 2 large sofas, an armchair a tub chair and a padded ottoman – allowing your whole party to relax together. The wide stripped floorboards really lend some style and atmosphere to this triple aspect room. French windows lead out to the garden – a great benefit in pleasant weather. The main house flat screen TV is here.
Little Towan is well equipped throughout. It has 2 TVs, 2 DVD players and wireless broadband . There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility, and of course a dishwasher.
Little Towan is heated with gas central heating, and a combi boiler which ensures there is always plenty of hot water.
Little Towan is set back from the road with parking for 2 cars at the front. A gate to the right of the front door leads round the side of the house to the private and peaceful rear garden. There is a sunny and sheltered terrace area, with a rattan dining set – a lovely area at all times of day. The garden is South-South-West facing – perfect for an afternoon in the garden or an evening meal out.
The utility and ‘wet’ room is accessed from the rear garden – a path leads from the kitchen doors. All wash-room facilities are here, as well as a heated shower which is ideal for showering off sand before going into the house. You can also store surfboards and other beach equipment as well as dry wetsuits back here.
Towan is just inland from Constantine Bay itself, and a short walk to Constantine or back inland to St Merryn. You can walk to the beach in 20-30 minutes – either going by the road, or across the footpath which starts right next to the house and comes out near the shops at Constantine (right at the top of the beach road). All the amazing beaches around Trevose are accessible by car in less than 5 or 10 minutes.
Trevose Golf Course is also within easy reach, being about a 10 minute walk or less than a minute’s drive. It is often the hub of activity at Constantine – providing a bar and restaurant, tennis and fresh water swimming. In the summer there are plenty of extra activities for all, and especially teenagers.
Constantine Bay Stores and Des’ surf shop are also in Constantine, perfect for just about all you need. St Merryn is also very close, with a bakery, post office, garage, hairdresser, pub, fish and chip and Chinese takeaway, as well as Rafferty’s, a very popular bar and restaurant on Little Towan’s side of the village. The Cornish Arms is only a little further away – on the road to Padstow half a mile outside St Merryn. Padstow itself is only 10 minute’s drive – for larger shops and some retail therapy!

Had a great week at Little Townan, it was a lovely lovely house. The kids loved it, especially the stash of toys.

I would heartily recommend Little Towan to others, as well as Raintree House and this area of Cornwall, but I am not sure if we will be back in Cornwall for our holidays next year yet.

Water pressure in the showers could be better and we couldn’t find a dustpan and brush but otherwise everything here is great.
Well stocked/provided for and a lovely place to stay. Thank you.
