History
Sailaway has been built on a plot of land owned for many years by the Harris family, whose holiday home, Wastehills, is a nearby property at Constantine Bay. In the early nineteen hundreds, the author Catharine Amy Dawson Scott bought many strips of land in the locality. The area was then known as The Wastralls, Cornish for rough or unused land. She built Wastehills for herself, as well as three other properties for her three children: the original Harlequin (then a small wooden house), Lynx and Holt.
She entertained Galsworthy, Rebecca West, Noel Coward, and many other famous writers of the time at Wastehills. The Harris family rented Faraway for many years as their holiday retreat before buying Wastehills in the late 1940s - and with Wastehills came the extra land on which the Sailaway now stands. The family like to think that Catharine would have loved Sailaway and that future generations will continue to enjoy the beauty of this unique and very special part of Cornwall.

After chatting with my sons & daughter in laws, as much as we’d love to rebook for next year after such a truly wonderful time last week, we feel we have too many uncertainties for next year which will prevent us from committing so we will have to take our chances. If 2025 isn’t possible we’d love to try again in 2026. As it would be our third time at Sailaway would we be able to take advantage of the early rebooking in 2025 for that year please?
As I explained to Rosemary, Constantine is very special to us and has known 4 generations of my family. I myself was introduced to it at the age of 7 and there haven’t been many years that I’ve missed! We absolutely love Sailaway too – it ticks all the boxes for us & John & Jean are such lovely hosts.

We are hoping either to return to Cornwall later on in the year or definitely next year.
Thank you once Again.

We had a lovely time and the house worked out really well for us. Your service was very good and if anything went wrong you responded immediately.
Only two small issues – in the man ensuite bedroom, the shower thermostat was a little flaky and sometimes we had cold showers!!! As we had such fab weather last week, not really a problem, but thought you should know. Also because of the wooden floors in the living areas, the noise in the bedrooms was quite loud. Had the owners thought of rugs, even cheaper ones from say Ikea, to cut out some of the noise??? Only a suggestion as we really loved the house, the garden and the views from the terrace were wonderful.
All in all it was nigh on perfect.
Raintree Says:
Thank you for your feedback on the shower and we are sorry that you had a problem, We have had a plumber look at it and it is now working fine.
With regard to the question of rugs, the owners do sometimes put these down in the winter but generally , and we know that many guests agree, they prefer the open and spacious feeling that the wooden floors give at Sailaway.
