The Property

  • Atmosphere

No 4 Hazleton is the perfect base for your Cotswold holiday. The cottage is semi-detached and just how a Cotswold hideaway should be: quaint, cosy, comfortable and rather luxurious and extravagant when time for bed. Its situated in a very quiet Cotswold hill village, with the most wonderful walking and views in all directions. In the morning, throw your bedroom windows open, and hear just the birds; enjoy breakfast on your private terrace, and then take a stroll round the quietest and most picturesque village in the Cotswold Hills. In the evening, enjoy a pint or glass of wine at the nearby pub, a fantastic meal at a local restaurant or gastro pub, and then relax in front of the wood-burner. All to be enjoyed, just a 10-15 minute drive from Stow-On-The-Wold, Bourton-On-The-Water, Cheltenham and Cirencester; with all the other Cotswold towns/attractions just an easy 30 minute drive away.

  • Sleeping

The two bedrooms both have stunning vaulted ceilings and of a good size, with both being located on the first floor, along the landing from their shared bathroom. The master bedroom has a very comfortable super-king bed, mahogany chest of drawers, fitted wardrobe, towel rail, small armchair, huge mirror and a large vaulted and beamed ceiling. There is plenty of space to relax, and you can open your cottage windows out onto the quiet village lane without fear of being overlooked. The 2nd set of stairs lead down from this room to the main sitting room below – the stairs are steep, but there is a wooden stair gate to ensure safety.

Next door across the landing is the 2nd bedroom. This is usually also made up as a huge super-king bed, with beautiful cotton throw cushions and large pillows. This room has plenty of space to relax, enjoy and spend your time, with period furniture and a fitted wardrobe. Both bedrooms have lovely throws for winter nights.

The 2nd bedroom can be made up as two twin single beds if preferred – please ask and book with us if required.

There are also two comfortable and sturdy camp-beds available – strictly for young children, and they must be booked with us if you want them to be made available. We would ask that you bring all bedding, sheets, and a pillow for each – there may be a single duvet available if the 2nd bedroom is made as a superking – please ask.

  • Bathroom

The bathroom can be found upstairs off the landing and is of a good size, with a bath and a separate shower. There is also a loo and basin, and views over the back garden and across the village.

There is a separate cloakroom downstairs, off the utility room.

  • Living rooms

The front door opens into the main living room. It’s a cosy room, with large wood burner set into an inglenook fireplace, 2-3 seater sofa, 2 armchairs and the TV. It’s a good place to relax in front of a cosy fire, or in the summer to leave the door open and enjoy the sounds of the countryside outside. The 2nd steep set of stairs leads up to the master bedroom from here.

To the left, the hall leads into the kitchen and then on, past the utility, to the back sitting or garden room. There is another sofa here, and attractive period furniture. The main stairs rise to the first floor; and the French windows open the room up to the terrace and garden outside.

  • Kitchen, Dining and Utility

The stone flags, wooden kitchen cabinets and top, and the 2nd inglenook housing the large range cooker, all provide the kitchen with a period charm which makes it a great room to spend time and entertain. The good sized wood table is the perfect size for four – whether for a fresh local breakfast or for a candle-lit supper. The dining chairs have attractive striped seat covers and there is a larger wooden armchair, perhaps for spending time chatting to the cook, or some hours in peace reading a book or planning the day ahead. There is a ‘one and a half’ stainless steel sink.

There is plenty of good quality cook and table ware, and a good range of glasses and cups. The range cooker has 2 electric ovens and a 5 burner gas hob, and there is a dishwasher, toaster, kettle, microwave and Nespresso machine.

Off the kitchen is a wonderful pantry – perfect for storing your dry goods or an apple pie prepared in advance for supper! The good sized fridge/freezer is here.

The back of the kitchen leads past the back door (out to the side of the house), and before reaching the rear sitting room, the utility can be found on the left. The utility is useful, providing a Belfast sink, and a long worktop with large wooden chopping board. The washing machine is located here.

The downstairs cloakroom leads off the utility.

  • Facilities

Oil fired central heating feeds radiators upstairs and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. The large wood burner warms the whole house. The range cooker is electric, but with a propane gas hob. There is a washing machine (line outside for drying), dishwasher, and fridge/freezer in the pantry.

There is wireless broadband at the property and a Bose Bluetooth music player.

There is a small bench in the front garden, surrounded by flowers, facing the quiet lane. Round the back, accessed by the French doors is a terraced area, and a long grass lawn, plenty big enough for a kick around or for lying out when the weather is warm. There is a table and chairs and charcoal BBQ for enjoying the terrace to the full.

The back door leads out to the side of the property and then round onto the terrace at the back.

There are many reasons to spend some time in the Cotswolds - and No 4 Hazleton allows you to enjoy your time to the full. For immediate, beauty, solitude and rugged charm, the village cannot be beaten. It is a no-through village with cars only passing to access houses and farms on the other side of the village. The whole village is great for walking round - quiet lanes, and stunning views at every turn. There are hundreds of longer walks to choose from - many with no need to get in the car at all. Northleach can be walked to via the most beautiful countryside in less than an hour. There are also numerous pubs in walking distance – but the Puesdown/Garniche is closest on the edge of the village. Biking is excellent and very popular in the area.

Or if sight-seeing is more your thing, the well-known towns of Bourton-On-The-Water, Winchcombe and Stow-On-The-Wold are all within a 15 minute drive. The larger towns of Cirencester and Cheltenham are both 15 away and great for shopping of all sorts. Burford is under 20 minutes for antiques and charm - or travel further to the dreaming spires of Oxford in 35 minutes or Bath in just over an hour. Roads are normally traffic free and easy.

There are wonderful food shopping opportunities all round, with farmers markets regulars of many of the local towns. Cirencester on the 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings of each month, Bourton the 4th Sunday of each month, Stow on occasional Thursdays and Cheltenham on the 2nd and last Friday of each month. Or just enjoy a bit of celebrity watching at Cirencester Waitrose on a Saturday morning!

The centre of jump racing can be found at Cheltenham racecourse, and the village of Hazleton is surrounded by many of the most famous jump jockey stables. To get some tips, just head down to the Hollow Bottom at Guiting Power for a pint.

No 4 Hazleton is just 90 minutes or less from West London and perfectly located in the centre of the country.

There are two approaches to this lovely property: a two mile narrow winding road, and a much shorter and straightforward one. We often chose the longer for its stunning beauty. We wanted a central location in an historic region without crowds of tourists. It was perfection. A quiet beautiful old stone village, all restored and hidden from the A40. Would return. Quick jaunts to Bath, Salisbury, many castles and charming towns. Fantastic walks for exercise. I was with my daughter who needed some study time. The house has two bedrooms, two baths, and two sitting rooms. She was able to set up her own space to work while I sat by the wood-stove in the other. Scrabble every evening after dinner. Lovely beamed ceilings throughout. Parking spot along the lane nearby. We went for walks on the lanes around the village which was convenient and stunning.

We really enjoyed the cottage, it was beautifully equipped and in a great area.

Despite all of the bad weather, we still enjoyed our stay very much!

We loved that the cottage still kept it’s old charm, yet had all of the modern conveniences that we needed!  It was beautiful, we had plenty of room while still feeling cozy!  We loved the heated flagstone floors and wood burning stove and the big comfy bed!

It was also very convenient to everything we needed and nice walks!

Our only very small complaint, and it did not hinder our nice time, is that the living room furniture is very tired and worn.  The cushions are no longer comfortable, otherwise, we loved it!
