The Property

  • Atmosphere

The location and views really define Trenley. There are magnificent views across the Atlantic Ocean to Trevose Head and Wales beyond. Trenley is situated in what is known as "The Field" where six other dwellings reside at the top of the sand dunes leading down to the Harlyn beach and the sea. Inside the house retains its character and provides a great base for your holiday whether in summer or winter. The kitchen and living areas are very smart – benefiting from amazing views from the 1st floor.

  • Sleeping

There are two entrances into Trenley, and with the house being sited on a small rise, one enters the property at ground level, whereas the more formal front door can be found round to the back of the house at 1st or raised ground floor level. The bedrooms are split – two downstairs and two upstairs. Downstairs, the first room has a king size bed, wash basin, fitted cupboards, wardrobes and drawers. Opposite is a similar bedroom with two 2ft 6in single beds. There is a shower room and cloakroom.

On the raised ground floor are two more bedrooms. One bedroom at the back of the property has dual aspect so that you can sit in bed and look at the sea and up to Trevose Head. This room has twin beds, wash basin, fitted wardrobe and drawer space, bedside tables and bedside lights. The other bedroom faces the sea, giving views down to the beach. This room has a king size bed, fitted cupboards, wash basin, bedside tables and lights over the bed.

  • Bathrooms

There are two bathrooms at Trenley. Downstairs there is a shower room with loo and basin and a separate cloakroom. Upstairs, the main bathroom has a bath with shower over and basin – while a separate loo can be found next door.

  • Living

The comfortable sitting room is at the head of the stairs and has windows looking out in three directions making it spacious and light. There are comfortable sofas and chairs, side tables, TV, DVD, loads of books and games in the bookcases and a CD player. The balcony outside the kitchen/dining room also provides fantastic views and a great place to sit and relax. If privacy is desired there is also now a separate snug on the ground floor with second TV and two sofas, a perfect space for children to play or adults to sit quietly with a good book.

  • Kitchen and Dining

The refurbished kitchen/dining area lies to the right of the sitting room and is well equipped with cooking utensils, cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and lots of cupboard space. The dining part has a long table with space for eight. There are French doors leading to the balcony where one can sit and admire the view. The back door from the kitchen leads out on to the patio at the back of the house. This is a south-facing sun trap where you can have coffee or tea in the summer sun.

  • Facilities

The washing machine and tumble dryer can be found in the downstairs utility. Fast wireless broadband is available at Trenley. A hard tennis court is available for use right next to the house - it is shared with the handful of houses located in 'The Field' at Harlyn. Trenley has Solar PV - so please try to do your tumble drying during the day when the sun is shining!

Outside

Trenley is situated in ‘The Field’ and there is no clearly delineated or enclosed garden. But the surroundings are quiet with no traffic other than servicing the 5 properties, and so there is ample room for running and for ball games – of course being sensitive to others. The grass area around the back of the house is certainly considered Trenley’s garden. This area receives wonderful sun all day, and the terrace here, with table and benches, is the perfect sun warmed spot to sit out of the breeze. The driveway has space for at least two cars.

The tennis court is shared by the houses in ‘The Field’ and is for your use.

Nearby

Trenley lies behind the sand dunes at Harlyn Bay and a short walk down to the cliff tops leads along the cliff path and straight down onto the middle of Harlyn beach. Harlyn beach is one of the best family beaches around – very long with plenty of sand even at high tide. The beach car park is at one end of the beach, and many do not make further than the 1st half of the beach. From where the footpath ends in steps down to the beach, the beach is absolutely magnificent – with fantastic rock formations, small caves and overhangs in which to sunbathe and relax. When the sun is out and the air is warm, this end of Harlyn really feels almost tropical.

If you don't want to take a picnic to the beach, food is available at Big Pan; paella, curries, freshly cooked crepes and hot and cold drinks. Head up to the deck on the roof for fabulous sea views with your coffee. Sunset sessions with live music happen every Thursday in July and August. Further up the car park, The Beach Box serves coffee and snacks and the famous Da Bara cinnamon buns. In summer you can also enjoy a cold beer or a cocktail from their Airstream bar. Trenley is also ideally situated for a visit to The Pig restaurant and bar. Just a 10 minute stroll will find you in the grounds of this very special place. With an emphasis on locally grown food, much from their own kitchen garden, this is a must-visit if you are nearby.

Alternatively, you can walk down the road in a few minutes to Harlyn bridge, and onto the beach by the car park. Here you can hire surf boards and book surf lessons. Harlyn is well renowned for surfing – being protected from the prevailing winds and yet still picking up plenty of waves. It’s a perfect place to learn, and you will find that many surf schools do most of their training here.

For shopping, St Merryn is minutes away, or Padstow itself is nearby. Five minutes drive will get you to the supermarket, or down into the town for a selection of boutiques and tempting dining options -  from the simple pasty to the more gourmet offerings from Paul Ainsworth or Rick Stein.

Feedback – as always everything was very clean and well presented on arrival.
Lovely welcome pack.
Housekeeping kindly cleaned Trenley first allowing us to get in at 2pm – enormously helpful to us and much appreciated.
Raintree continues to provide a very good service and Trenley remains a home from home which holds a special place in our hearts.

It was just perfect – thank you to all the Raintree Team, and to the Trenley owners too.

We’ve been coming to Harlyn for over 50 years now…such a special place…

Stayed: 18th Jun 2022

All the admin leading up to our stay was both first class and very ‘kindly’ dealt with – thank you!

The house was beautifully clean and we felt at home and on holiday as soon as we walked through the door – thank you!

I can’t think of anything which would have made our holiday any better this year; but we would LOVE to come back next year for 2 weeks if at all possible…

Stayed: 8th Apr 2022

WE LOVED IT! Thank you to Trenley and Raintree team.

Stayed: 1st May 2021

We were delighted with our stay at Trenley last week. Everything was immaculately clean and the house very well maintained. We love it there so much and cant wait to return!

Stayed: 10th Oct 2020

We had a lovely week and Trenley was as good as ever. It is such a good position . This year we visited the Camel Valley Vineyard for wine tasting. Highly recommend! They have got organised to do flights of wines either sparkling or still. Sitting in the sun overlooking the vineyards we could have been abroad- but how much easier this year to be in Cornwall!

Stayed: 4th Jul 2020

A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY, AS ALWAYS, THE HOUSEKEEPING STAFF HAVE DONE A WONDERFUL JOB AND WE FEEL VERY PRIVILEGED TO BE ABLE TO STAY IN THIS BEAUTIFUL AREA.

I cannot believe our week has passed so quickly.  What a fabulous time we’ve all had.  From the moment we arrived to a lovely tray of tea and cake, we just knew we had found the perfect place for our family holiday.  Comfort, every thing you could want from a beach house property; space, location.  Views to die for!!  We will be planning our next visit and hope its going to be soon.  Thank you once again for your excellent service and support.

Stayed: 8th Sep 2018

Wonderful holiday again, hope to repeat it for the 6th year running.

Stayed: 7th Jul 2018

We had the most amazing two weeks, thank you!  To be honest we didn’t really need the cakes on arrival but the tea was most welcome, thanks!

Stayed: 12th May 2018

Trenley is in a super location and with lovely views, the upstairs double bed that we use is comfortable and the bed linen good quality and beautifully laundered. The house was lovely and clean on arrival and we met your cleaning staff again this year and as usual found them to be very nice hardworking people.

Stayed: 21st Apr 2018

Nothing could have improved our holiday at Trenley it was perfect.

Stayed: 23rd Mar 2018

We had a lovely stay at Trenley! It is in a great position and we really loved having the use of the tennis court which was a real bonus for us!

On a housekeeping note – the kitchen is very well equipped – apart from – a salad bowl!!! I used the big Le Creuset pot which was rather heavy! We searched high and low but couldn’t find anything anywhere that resembled a salad bowl.

Raintree Says:

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay!

Regarding the salad bowl, we will take it into account and try to sort something out for the future.

Stayed: 14th Oct 2017

We had a lovely week and thought the improvements were super. The double bedroom was better at the back of the house downstairs. I thought the drying room was a great idea and although we didn’t need to use it I can see it would be great in the summer or if there was lots of wet washing! Also the outside shower and taps would be good for surfers. The downstairs sitting room was very smart and makes another living area. The large entrance hall with many hooks and shoe racks was brilliant. It reminded me of a school cloakroom and certainly had room for all our coats and boots! It is such a fantastic situation and for my mother, who is not able to walk far,it is wonderful as she can see the sea from the living room or balcony. We love being able to get to the beach so easily.

Stayed: 29th Jul 2017

Thank you for two great weeks.

The house is comfortable and practical with beautiful views and couldn’t be closer to the beach.

Stayed: 8th Jul 2017

It was absolutely perfect (well ok maybe a little less rain!)

Stayed: 8th Jul 2017

What could be improved?

Nothing – it was absolutely perfect (we okay maybe a little less rain!)

Stayed: 17th Jun 2017

All absolutely brilliant.

Stayed: 17th Jun 2017

We had the most amazing week at Trenley, we were so lucky with the weather this year!
We are very impressed by RHH, both the admin side of it and the standard of the property. Everything is as we would have wished for.
One tiny tiny detail which I suspect was an oversight was the lack of oven gloves.

Raintree Says:

We are so pleased that you had an amazing stay with us and are looking to return next year. With regard to the oven gloves, we do put these into all our properties but this must have been a mistake on our part - our apologies!

Stayed: 18th Dec 2016

We enjoyed a very comfortable and enjoyable holiday at Trenley and in Harlyn over Christmas and would certainly like to return to the property in the future.
