Key Features
The Property
- Atmosphere
Uncover a beautiful beach side retreat for 14 at Harlyn Bay. Tresillian’s seaside location is evident as soon as you enter. Light filled spaces combined with maritime blues, crisp whites and natural wood ensures that Tresillian offers beach living at its finest. Start your day with a fresh coffee on the terrace before packing up a picnic and heading to the beach for a day of family activities on the sand. Inside discover large, sociable open plan spaces, vibrant artwork, seven dreamy bedrooms and five spa-like bathrooms for refreshing and relaxing. Come evening, spill out onto the terrace and tuck into an alfresco feast made from the freshest of Cornish produce.
- Living, dining and cooking
The heart of the home is surely the huge open plan kitchen, fully equipped with everything you need to make holiday cooking and eating easy. A large reclaimed dining table sits in front of the floor to ceiling sliding doors – a place for all the family to gather together to eat. At the other end of the kitchen, brightly coloured sofas and chairs provide some relaxing space while the cooks in the party rustle up a sumptuous supper for everyone. If you want to get away from the crowd, Tresillian has two more living areas to choose from as well; a ‘grown up’ sitting room with TV and open fire which leads onto a sun room with views over the back garden and a further lounge with sofas and wall mounted TV. For when work needs must, there’s a large desk with garden views between the kitchen and sitting room.
- Sleeping and bathing
There are seven bedrooms at Tresillian; three on the ground floor and four on the first floor. The first ground floor bedroom has an opulent super king size bed and is set in front of sliding doors which open out onto a terrace; a nice quiet spot to take an early morning coffee. Two further twin rooms on the ground floor are decorated simply with wooden furniture, natural flooring, white walls, accented with funky headboards and artwork. Head upstairs to find four further bedrooms; two have glass fronted balconies with garden and countryside views while the third with an optional single bed and fourth with a superking adjoin and make the perfect suite for a small family. The final twin room has white wooden beds and wood floors.
There’s no shortage of bathrooms at Tresillian. Take a relaxing soak on one of the two baths or freshen up in one of the three shower rooms, one of which are a Jack and Jill and shared by the two upstairs balconied bedrooms. There’s also a useful outside shower for washing off sandy children and dogs.
- Facilities
A convenient utility room has direct access to the garden and is equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave and a Sheila Maid.
Outside
The garden is largely laid to lawn and is the perfect space for relaxing and games. Two slate patios to the back and front of the house provide ample space for alfresco eating.
Nearby
Tresillian lies right of the road running down through Harlyn, with a double splayed entrance and large wooden gates. And yet, the beach is so close - a short walk across the road, along Sandy Lane to the end, over a stile, down a well-worn footpath and straight onto the middle of Harlyn beach. Harlyn beach is one of the best family beaches around – very long with plenty of sand even at high tide. The beach car park is at one end of the beach, and many do not make it further than the 1st half of the beach. From where the footpath ends in steps down to the beach, the beach is absolutely magnificent – with fantastic rock formations and small caves and overhangs to sunbathe and relax. When the sun is out and the air is warm, this end of Harlyn really feels almost tropical.
If you don't want to take a picnic to the beach, food is available at Big Pan; paella, curries, freshly cooked crepes and hot and cold drinks. Head up to the deck on the roof for fabulous sea views with your coffee. Sunset sessions with live music happen every Thursday in July and August. Further up the car park, The Beach Box serves coffee and snacks and the famous Da Bara cinnamon buns. In summer you can also enjoy a cold beer or a cocktail from their Airstream bar.
Alternatively, you can walk down the road in a few minutes to the small bridge, and onto the beach here by the car park. Here you can hire surf boards and book surf lessons. Harlyn is well renowned for surfing – being protected from the prevailing winds and yet still picking up plenty of waves. It’s a perfect place to learn, and you will find that many surf schools do most of their training here.
For shopping, St Merryn is minutes away, or Padstow itself is nearby. Five minutes drive will get you to the supermarket, or down into the town for boutique fun and dining from pasty to gourmet – and everything in between.
