The Property

  • Atmosphere

Trewarren is a 1918 house having a charm all of its own and retaining most of the original features of the house. The house has not been significantly re-structured inside, so there are plenty of doors, hall space, nooks and crannies. It has a wonderful feel and now works extremely well for two families. There are endless places to sit and relax or to get together for fun and enjoyment. Although not luxurious, Trewarren is a comfortable, atmospheric and extremely amenable house for fantastic beach holidays.

  • Sleeping

Four bedrooms are on the ground floor. One has king bed and is across the hall from the kitchen. The window looks out over the back garden and there is a delightful porthole window looking to the side. The room has two small hanging cupboards, a chest of drawers, bedside tables and lights. At the bottom of the staircase in the back of the house is a twin-bedded room which is furnished with wardrobe, chest of drawers, and has a wash basin, and heated towel rail.

The other two ground floor bedrooms are situated by the main bathroom - one having twin beds with a small wardrobe and drawer space while overlooking the front garden. The other has twin beds as well as a wardrobe and chest of drawers.  The window here looks out to the west side of the house.

Up the stairs you will find a beautiful double room, with splendid dual aspect views looking out to Trevose Head and down to Stepper Point. This room has a fantastic en suite bathroom, chest of drawers and hanging cupboard.

  • Bathrooms

The main bathroom is found off the hall, and provides a bath with shower over. There is also a cloakroom with loo and hand basin on the ground floor and a shower room at the bottom of the stairs, with shower, loo and basin. The double room upstairs also has a lovely en suite. Off the kitchen, there is also a cloakroom with loo – and there is a an outside shower for showering off after a hard day at the beach.

  • Living

The main sitting room can be found in the centre of the house. With sofa and easy chairs and open fire, this is a cosy and comfortable room. The TV and DVD player can also be found here. Upstairs, there is the spacious attic sitting room with comfortable seating a flat screen TV, Klipsch IPod/Mp3 hifi, a table for playing games and a fabulous view of the Atlantic Ocean. This room is perfect for getting away from the hubbub, family games, or as a base for children and teenagers.

At the front of the house, facing the sea, there is a half-glazed extension with beautiful stripped wooden floors and views across the garden. It’s a lovely place to sit and read or just relax.

  • Kitchen and Dining

The kitchen and dining room can be found at the back of the house, away from the sea. The dining room has windows on three sides and so is light and bright. It has a table large enough to sit eight people comfortably, but is rather more neighbourly if ten or twelve sit round it. As this room is an extension to the original house, one can pass food and plates through one of the kitchen windows. It works very well! The kitchen is now a lovely open area with plenty of period features and feel. It has masses of cupboard space and work surfaces. It is well equipped with an electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, food blender and hand held electric whisk.

  • Facilities

Trewarren is now equipped with wireless broadband. The washing machine and tumble drier can be found in the downstairs loo just off the kitchen. Heating is provided by effective storage heaters and some electric panel heaters. The fire in the sitting room is also used to good effect in colder months.

Outside

The spacious garden is laid to lawn. There is garden furniture and a picnic table supplied so you can enjoy your meals outside or you can enjoy a drink during the long summer evenings. The garden runs right around the house, and provides plenty of space for cricket or other ball sports. You can always find an area round the house to shelter from any breeze. An outside shower is provided by the front door. There is parking for 2 or 3 cars outside the garden gate.

Nearby

Trewarren lies behind the sand dunes at Harlyn Bay and is reached by a private road, Sandy Lane, off the road running down through Harlyn. A short walk to the end of the lane leads over a stile, down a well-worn footpath and straight onto the middle of Harlyn beach. Harlyn beach is one of the best family beaches around – very long with plenty of sand even at high tide. The beach car park is at one end of the beach, and many do not make further than the 1st half of the beach. From where the footpath ends in steps down to the beach, the beach is absolutely magnificent – with fantastic rock formations, small caves and overhangs in which to sunbathe and relax. When the sun is out and the air is warm, this end of Harlyn really feels almost tropical.

Alternatively, you can walk down the road in a few minutes to Harlyn bridge, and onto the beach by the car park. Here you can hire surf boards and book surf lessons. Harlyn is well renowned for surfing – being protected from the prevailing winds and yet still picking up plenty of waves. It’s a perfect place to learn, and you will find that many surf schools do most of their training here.

If you don't want to take a picnic to the beach, food is available at Big Pan; paella, curries, freshly cooked crepes and hot and cold drinks. Head up to the deck on the roof for fabulous sea views with your coffee. Sunset sessions with live music happen every Thursday in July and August. Further up the car park, The Beach Box serves coffee and snacks and the famous Da Bara cinnamon buns. In summer you can also enjoy a cold beer or a cocktail from their Airstream bar.

For shopping, St Merryn is minutes away, or Padstow itself is nearby. Five minutes drive will get you to the supermarket, or down into the town for a selection of boutiques and tempting dining options -  from the simple pasty to the more gourmet offerings from Paul Ainsworth or Rick Stein.

Stayed: 23rd Aug 2022

I just wanted to say we had an absolutely fantastic time at Trewarren and found the house perfect for our family especially with the dogs…..who settled straight away and were completely at home.

Stayed: 30th Jul 2019

Brilliant as ever thank you!

Stayed: 18th Jun 2019

The new shower in the top bedroom is a great improvement!
We had a lovely time, thank you.

Stayed: 10th Jul 2018

Pros – the service given by Raintree was excellent.  The property suited us perfectly both in rooms, outside space and location for access to the beach.
Cons – a couple of minor ones:
1.    I found the bed/s uncomfortable!  We swapped over a single mattress that seemed more comfortable (and replaced it before leaving) but it was only marginally less hard.
2.    Our request for more wine glasses was quickly dealt with, but we still felt that a house sleeping 12 ought to have 12 dishwashable wine glasses!  Just an observation/comment!!

Raintree Says:

I'm sorry you found the beds uncomfortable. There have been two new beds put in place this year. I will pass this feedback on to the owner.

We have now supplied the house with more wine glasses and checked the rest of the crockery etc... the house is now fully stocked.

Stayed: 18th Jul 2017

Lovely spot and a unique house

Stayed: 20th Jun 2017

🙂 I am very excited and the house was lovely, thank you for such an amazing experience and I’ll be glad to come back next year!

Stayed: 3rd Jun 2017

Really enjoyed our holiday

Stayed: 29th Dec 2016

We had a fabulous time for our week and the weather was blue skies for most of the week
All of my party loved Trewarren. We liked that it was a period property that had been well maintained but not “modernised”, so a lot of original features are still there, such as the fabulous slate shelved pantry. It would be interesting to know the history of the property if you have any information on it.
