Key Features
The Property
The Granite House is a quirky, satisfyingly solid house with walls built out of huge blocks of graceful granite - hence the name. It's tucked away down a quiet lane in central Padstow in an elevated position with superb views down over the town and out across the estuary. The unusual multi sided upstairs living space makes the most of these views and provides a comfortable light space to gather and relax. The house is split over two levels with an unconventional layout, a mixture of unexpected architectural features and a multitude of nooks and crannies to explore. It's the perfect base for those who want to experience the gentle buzz of Padstow while still being within easy reach of the multiple beautiful beaches that dot this stunning stretch of North Cornish coastline.
Sleeping
The Granite House sleeps 9 in 5 bedrooms. The spacious master is situated immediately off the entrance hallway with a Super King bed and convenient en-suite bathroom. Doors lead straight out from here onto the terrace and provide pleasant views across the terrace to the lawn beyond. Moving on past the piano in the large central hallway brings you to the double with dual aspect windows, again looking out over the terrace and gardens. There is also a chest of drawers for clothes storage. Finally the last bedroom straight off the central hallway is a bunkroom. The last bedroom on the ground floor is then reached down a corridor off the central hallway that leads round to the bedroom and a Super King bed. It features patio doors that lead outside to the upper paved terrace with one of the walls left unrendered revealing the large tactile blocks of granite that make up most of the house. This bedroom also features a built in wardrobe, useful further cupboard space and a dressing table. There is also a bathroom situated along the corridor which acts as an en suite to the King but can be used by others if desired.
The final remaining bedroom is positioned off the first floor living space with a single bed, writing desk and some well stocked bookshelves. The window at the end of the room over the writing desk is a great spot to sit and enjoy the views down over Padstow and across the estuary.
Bathrooms
There are 4 bathrooms at The Granite House, the Super King master has an en suite bathroom with handheld shower, bath and loo. Next door is a simple white tiled bathroom with shower cubicle, loo and basin. Off the spacious central hallway is also a further downstairs cloakroom. The next and largest bathroom is rather special with some memorable reclaimed features. Two huge slabs of slate are used one of which forms a particularly solid and attractive shower screen. The last bathroom is positioned off the hallway leading to the King bedroom and acts as an en - suite but is positioned along the corridor so can be accessed without disturbing guests in the King. It's decorated with sky blue tiling and consists of a shower cubicle, loo and basin.
Kitchen/Dining and Living
The living area at The Granite House is a large, light multi sided space with high ceilings and exposed beams. This is a very comfortable, impressive room with deep carpets, comfortable and traditional three seater sofas and two armchairs. Alongside these, there are multiple side chairs and some fine pieces of period furniture. The open fire make the living space a cosy spot to sit and enjoy the views over the estuary when temperatures drop. The spectacular views continue into the adjoining kitchen area with a U shaped kitchen cabinet arrangement around a central wooden dining table. The kitchen is a compact practical space which is well connected to the sitting room ensuring any chef's in the group won't miss out on group conversations!
Facilities
The house is centrally heated with an open fire in the sitting room. A separate small utility room downstairs houses a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is parking for 3 cars on the gated courtyard and a designated space outside on the road - the lane is narrow and care is needed accessing the courtyard parking inside.
Outside
Directly outside the house is a paved terrace, perfect for sitting in the sun in the morning - easily accessible from two of the ground floor bedrooms. There is also a walled lawn surrounded by well planted beds which in summer create a lush tranquil environment to relax in. The upper part of the garden is paved and can be used for parking or to sit and enjoy the scenic views down over Padstow and across the estuary.
Nearby
The Granite House is situated in a very convenient spot for exploring the beautiful harbour town of Padstow. It's positioned within easy reach of the plethora of shops, cafes and restaurants - St. Petroc's Bistro being particularly close only a two minute walk down the road. Many thanks for excellent administration of our stay at Granite House. We found the house absolutely fantastic and very much appreciated everything that was available for our use. You really only need to bring your own clothes and beach towels to enjoy a holiday there – even a variety of wet suits [to fit all ages!], bodyboards and lots of beach toys. Very well appointed and equipped, we felt the furniture was very much in keeping with a family home but some younger members of our party commented that they felt it was a bit tired. Perhaps an improvement could be made to the patio furniture but that is really only a very minor point.
Raintree Says:
Thank you very much for your useful feedback about the patio furnitutre, we will certainly pass this on to the owners.

Had a wonderful week in Padstow & we all enjoyed our stay.
Granite House is a lovely quirky house that felt as if previous owners had just locked up and left. Numerous personal items and memorabilia which kept us guessing and with help of internet we discovered lots about them. I think it would be really lovely to have some information about them & their lives plus some history on the property.
