The Property

Wings is conveniently located just a few minutes walk down an easy flat lane leading straight off the beach at Porthcothan. It has been lovingly looked after over the years and offers a comfortable, easy spot in which to relax and enjoy the area. The beach at Porthcothan, shop/cafe and pub are all within easy walking distance. It is also ideally positioned for walking the nearby coastal path with Diggorys Island and Bedruthan Steps to explore to the South and Treyarnon & Constantine Bays to the North.

Sleeping

There are 3 bedrooms in total at Wings, all lead off the central corridor that runs from front to back. The first bedroom along the corridor is a twin room with double aspect windows, the larger of the two looks out across the picturesque green of the valley to the front. It is decorated with chequered curtains and seaside artwork. There is a curtained row of clothes hooks, as well as a chest of drawers for clothes storage. Further down the corridor is the double room, with two windows either side of the fireplace (no longer in use) with views out to the side of the house. In this room is the optional single bed which can be used if you bring your own linen and towels . There is an attractive period chest of drawers, large freestanding wardrobe and two chairs. The third and final bedroom is at the back of the house with bunk-bed (full size) There is also a chest of drawers and one bedside table. This final bedroom faces the back garden and patio with a large window all along the back and side of the room, making the space feel light and inviting.

Bathrooms

There are two bathrooms at Wings. The first has a bath, basin and loo and the other a shower cubicle, loo, basin and mini tumble dryer. Both are tiled, clean, simple spaces.

Kitchen and Dining

The kitchen and dining space has an open layout with an L shaped kitchen unit design that helps to divide the cooking and dining areas. A further smaller unit against the back wall houses the oven and hob. A large wooden farmhouse table sits centrally to the dining area. The patio can also be easily enjoyed from the dining area through sliding doors and makes it simple for meals to be enjoyed outside.

Living

The living room has pleasant views out of the front of the house, down over the sloping front lawn and across the valley. It has a comfortable homely feel with smart carpet and a well positioned corner sofa that makes the most of the space. It has an armchair and two further lounge chairs. A TV with DVD and video is set into the bookshelf alongside a good selection of holiday reads - perfect for enjoying by the open fire. The walls are decorated with reminders of the local coastline, including a useful OS map of the area.

Facilities

There is a washing machine with built in Tumble dryer in the main corridor just before you enter the kitchen with freezer above and then into the main kitchen area there is a fridge, microwave, dishwasher, electric hob and oven. There is also a washing line outside and there is wireless broadband.

Outside

There is a large sloping lawn which leads up from the private lane and then changes level again up steps to the front door. The front garden has a pleasant open aspect and provides quite a large area for ball games. The lane directly opposite the garden is very quiet and great for children to practice bike riding or to brush up on their skateboarding.
At the back of the house is the second outdoor space which leads straight out from the kitchen dining area through sliding doors. This consists of a patio area and smaller grassed lawn above which is used to access the washing line. The paved patio area is a simple space which neatly fits the outdoor table and chairs and provides a cosy private space to dine outdoors.

Nearby

Wings is located off the main road, past the car park, and then along a private lane leading back away from the coast. The beach is a short flat walk along the lane. The beach is a fantastic stretch of sand particularly at low tide. Porthcothan Stores supplies papers, milk and bread every day in season and is located on the path from the road through to the beach. Up the hill on the other side (Padstow-side) is the Tredrea pub, providing a convenient spot for refreshment, with super views down over the bay from its large sunny terrace.

The beach at Porthcothan is particularly special. At low tide, the beach opens out with huge rock pillars, caves and pools. It is great to explore. It is also very good for swimming and surfing. Around the south headland, can be found the Trescore Islands, wonderful for swimming in the shallow lagoon and more like the Med in good weather. Good walking can be found further south, towards the fascinating rocky inlet of Porthmear and on to Bedruthan Steps and Mawgan Porth. To the north, the walk along the headland to Treyarnon is particularly beautiful.

Newquay Airport is only 10 minutes away, a little closer at Mawgan Porth is a small cluster of beachside shops/cafes and restaurants, while  St Merryn is the nearby village which provides pubs and shops, as well as a number of restaurants. Finally Padstow is also within easy reach for shopping and dining, only 10 minutes by car to the north.

We had a superb time down at Wings in Porthcothan.   The proximity to the beach and the laid back lifestyle of the village suited us down to the ground.

Wings” was perfect for us.  It gave our severely autistic 6 year old granddaughter a safe haven, and peace of mind for the rest of the family.
My grandchildren are the 4th Generation of my family to stay at Porthcothan since the early 1960’s’. Firstly camping & caravanning at Carneavas Farm, where my parents had their caravan for about 20 years.  My daughter & I stayed at the Bay House Hotel many times.  My husband & I took each grandchild for a week at Old MacDonalds Farm B&B a couple of times, so we know and love the area very much. Our stay at “Wings” was the best ever.
