  • Atmosphere

The property is a wonderful base for a family holiday or a cosy weekend away. The house has been furnished with painted wood flooring in the hallway and wood flooring elsewhere. Tongue-and-groove wood panelling and  heavy wood internal doors are used throughout the house. The house is painted with calm and stylish earth colours – neutral and contemporary.

  • Sleeping

Gortheren has 3 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king-size double bed with an attractive painted wood frame and a comfortable pocket sprung mattress. Both the twin and bunk-bed rooms are located at the far end of the house. The twin room has 2 full-sized cream painted wooden single beds.  French doors open out to the terrace and south-facing private rear garden. The bunk beds in the 3rd bedroom are full sized and very comfortabl . In all rooms, wood furniture provides a large amount of hanging and drawer space for your holiday wardrobe - don't hold back if you have room in the car! Each room is large and well proportioned.

  • Bathrooms

Gortheren has 1 bathroom in the house, equipped with modern basin and bath. There is a high pressure shower, with screen, positioned above the bath. Outside, there is also a wetroom accessed from the rear garden. This is designed primarily to allow showering off after days on the beach, fitted with a shower and loo. There is hanging provided for wetsuits and swimwear – keeping all sandy stuff out of your immaculate holiday home!

  • Living

The sitting room can be found off the hall, and opposite the kitchen/dining room. Double doors ensure that quiet and peace can be found in both large living rooms. A flat screen TV is provided, as well as a fantastic Sony hard disk stereo - with loads of music available to play. Two large sofas provide a comfortable place to relax, or to enjoy the sea views over Trevone. Or close the doors, and sit on the bay window seat to read your favourite book!

  • Kitchen and Dining

Gortheren now has a wonderful entertaining space. The kitchen is decked out with painted wood units and heavy wood work surface. The cooker is a gas range, with triple oven and 5 burners and an aluminium extractor hood above – perfect for a large family meal. A large Belfast sink makes any washing up quick and easy to do! Dining is round a large dining table – an airy and spacious area with full height ceiling and velux window over. Or relax by the full width French windows out to the rear garden – when the weather is warm, entertaining can spill outside, and Gortheren opens up to bring the ‘tropical’ garden inside. This room is sure to be the centre of activity.

  • Facilities

Modern central heating ensures cosy warmth and plenty of hot water. Off the kitchen/dining room there is a utility room, containing washing and drying facilities. Dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer are provided, as well as an iron.

  • Outside

Gortheren is surrounded by private gardens, front and back. The front garden and drive provide a large flat space for kicking a ball about. There are tall palm trees along the edge of the drive, which has plenty of space for 2 cars. The drive leads around the side of the house to the garage – available to guests for storage of surfboards and containing garden furniture and tools.

A gate leads through into the back garden. The rear garden is a wonderful private space – receiving sun all day, and being safe for children to play, and for adults to relax in. It has a terrace running along the back of the house – which can be accessed from the main French doors from the kitchen/dining room, the French doors from the twin room and via the back door from the utility room. The grass lawn itself extends some 100ft back, and is surrounded by open fields to the south. There is plenty of room for cricket, rugby and football – or for hide-and-seek!

  • Nearby

From Gortheren, Trevone and all its facilities are within easy reach. The sandy beach is popular with many nooks and crannies to sunbathe, as well as a broad expanse of sand for playing games. The bathing is safe and protected, but also good for surfing, particularly for beginners. Surfboards can be bought or rented at the beach shop. Right alongside the sandy beach is Newtrain beach, also known as the rocky beach. Great for exploring, rock pooling, and for protected swimming in the natural swimming pool. The two contrasting beaches provide great fun for children and adults alike! The beaches can be walked to in less than 10 minutes – either on the road, or quicker by footpath along the field edge.

For shopping, Trevone has a good beach and surf shop, as well as the Madrips café for ice creams, coffee, pizza and other light meals. The village shop further back from the beach is open 7 days, with quality bread and pasties, as well as other staple supplies. The Well Parc provides an opportunity for lunchtime or evening drinks, and is accessible by footpath and lane from all over Trevone. The village has a great sense of community, one of which guests immediately feel a part.

Padstow is less than 5 minutes by car, with its historic harbour, special and individual shops and boutiques, as well as a huge range of restaurants and cafes, led of course by Rick Stein’s Seafood restaurant, bistro, café, and wonderful ‘fish and chip’ shop. Padstow Farm Shop, just outside Padstow itself, is great for local meat and vegetables and can be accessed by the ‘back lane’ out of Trevone – by car or by foot. Seafood can be bought from the atmospheric quay at Padstow.

The coast path is easily accessed – and walking is fantastic in both directions: to Padstow in under an hour, or across to Harlyn and Trevose Head.

Just to say what a wonderful week we had at Gortheren, it was great to be back at the house after almost 5 years! We went to the Eden Project (ice-skating!), St Eval candle factory, Kernow chocolate shop, Trevose Head lighthouse, RNLI boat launch at Padstow, Rick Stein at Fistral and many visits to the sandy and rocky beaches at Trevone with wild waves. The quieter season makes everything so much less busy on the roads and at the attractions. All the things we’ve been meaning to do for years but could never face the queues in July/August!

We all had a fab time in Gotheren. Super location, very well equipped and clean. Couldn’t fault it.

Thank you so much, what a wonderful home and beautiful place!

Stayed: 11th Jul 2018

We had a wonderful week at Gortheren.  House was just right for us, and such amazing weather!

Stayed: 6th Jun 2018

We had a lovely stay in Trevone. Gortheren was spacious and really well equipped and we loved the location.

I would only say that, in our opinion, the outside of the property let it down slightly as it looked a bit shabby & did not convey the lovely interior.

Same for the garden and garage area, which although was a great size, did look rather unkempt.

The Victoria sandwich & tea tray on arrival was a really nice touch and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Gortheren & Raintree Holidays to friends.

Thank you for your efficiency and attention to detail.

Raintree Says:

Thank you for your valuable feedback!

The front of the house is due for a spruce up. The owner is aware and it is being done at the end of this month. Sorry it was not done in time for your stay!

Stayed: 4th Apr 2018
