Lamorna Cottage is located just down Bay Road, a hundred yards or so level walk from the surf shop and beach café at Trevone. A well-furnished and presented house, with a positive and relaxing feel throughout. It is spacious, being luxurious in places, homely in others. It has 4 bath/shower rooms and has stripped wood floors through most of the living areas. French doors open out the house to the garden and the sounds of the sea. Attractive and interesting art and ornaments complete a very relaxing and ‘in-balance’ house!
There are 4 bedrooms at Lamorna – 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs – or 5 if you include the small study upstairs. The 2 main bedrooms upstairs are both spacious and have their own ensuite shower rooms. The master bedroom has a king sized bed with a pine frame. Other pine furniture is around the room – two old pine large chests of drawers and a 3rd smaller chest of drawers and bedside tables of more modern pine. There are fitted cupboards for hanging and the room is fully carpeted. The room enjoys light from both aspects with a velux window on one side and a large double window to the other. The ensuite has a large shower cubicle, loo and basin, and a velux window to provide natural light.
At the other end of the landing is the 2nd bedroom – this time with a 4ft 6in double bed, but again a large carpeted bedroom with an attractive wooden framed bed. A large old pine chest of drawers and fitted cupboards ensure you have plenty of storage. A wicker chair is good for peaceful relaxation, and the ensuite again is a good-size with large corner shower cubicle, basin and loo. Half-way along the landing is the small study room – good if some work can’t be avoided, or more likely as a good location for a cot if required.
Downstairs, there are two twin rooms. The first has large windows facing out over the front drive and the lane beyond (this room can also be made up as a Super King on request). At the back of the house is the 4th bedroom – with wooden framed single beds and views out over the rear garden. Both downstairs rooms have stripped wood flooring and all bedrooms feature fitted bedside lights.
The main family bathroom is located downstairs and has a warm cushioned floor and half-tiled walls. It is a good size, with a panelled bath across the far wall, a basin, loo and large heated towel rail. Also, downstairs is a large and effective shower room situated next door to the utility room, and perfect for showering off in the warmth when just back from the beach. It has a large walk in shower area, with tiling and thick glass screen, and is equipped with a powerful shower.
Upstairs are the 2 ensuite bathrooms. Both have corner fitted shower cubicles with good showers, loos, basins and heated towel rails. Both get natural light from velux roof windows and are large enough for sensible use!
Lamorna enjoys spacious and light-filled living areas. The main hall is large with stripped wood floors and fitted cupboards under the stairs and against the opposite wall. Carpeted stairs lead off, while the hall follows round to the right and into the kitchen/dining room which runs from the front to back of the house.
The main sitting room is found through the kitchen/dining room, and is a cosy, warm room with 3 sofas, a wood burner style heater and wall mounted flat screen TV. With windows front and back and large glass sliding doors leading out to the garden, the room is light-filled. There are 2 coffee tables, a wall mounted clock, fun and colourful paintings and a stereo.
- Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen and dining room, along with the sitting room, forms the heart of the house, and much of your time will be spent relaxing and chatting around the counter/bar that splits the room in two. There are stools around the bar, and a small flat screen TV, providing relaxed and casual eating and drinking and a good place to share fun moments when cooking supper for the family!
Stripped wood floors stretch throughout, while a painted wooden kitchen and laminate worktop make a very attractive kitchen setting. There is a one and a half steel sink, fitted dishwasher, 4 burner gas hob with extractor over, and an electric oven. A large stainless steel fridge/freezer should provide plenty of space for your food shopping. The far end of the kitchen is completely glazed, with French doors leading out to the rear garden. Large roof windows allow light to pour down into the kitchen providing a rather wonderful atmosphere.
At the far end of the room is the main dining table – an understated heavy wooden table with plenty of room for 8 to eat in comfort. A pine dresser and sideboard make the room attractive, but not overly cluttered. A Sony iPod dock/stereo is provided for a bit of light entertainment during your meals!
Off the hall is a utility room, containing washing machine, tumble dryer, sink, fridge and storage, allowing you to keep any washing right away from your everyday holiday fun. Lamorna is heated by a modern gas central heating system and is provided with wireless broadband.
The garden is a reasonable size and situated behind the house. There is plenty of room for a kick about, and a terrace area with furniture outside of the kitchen and a 2nd small terrace outside the sitting room doors. There is also an outside shower. The front of the house is close to the lane – but it is a no through road – with Lamorna Cottage being right at the end of the lane.
Lamorna Cottage is located just at the end of the quiet Bay Road only one hundred and fifty yards level walk from the main sandy beach. A little further round is Newtrain beach – a rocky beach with thousands of rockpools to explore, some lovely and quiet sandy areas as well as the natural swimming pool. At the far end of Bay Road is the surfshop and café – ideal for basic supplies (papers, milk, bread), renting surf gear, buying buckets and spades, and having a good cup of coffee, an ice cream or a good lunch. The Trevone Farmshop is a 5 minute walk back up the beach road and has a larger supply of essentials and more besides. For a full butchers shop as well as wonderful vegetables, cheese and bread, try the Padstow Farmshop which is located on the back road from Trevone to Padstow or by turning left just before Padstow off the main road.
Padstow itself is only 5 minutes drive away, with shopping, boat trips and superb eating. Walking is wonderful in both directions along the coast path.
