Key Features
- Atmosphere
Aquataine Lodge is a bold imposing house that sits just above the beach at Treyarnon. It features huge expanses of glazing and two large balconies that help to coax you outside to relax and soak up the sea air. It commands the best views of any of the surrounding properties and the private road leads straight down to the beautiful beach in minutes. The house sleeps 12 in 6 bedrooms and, if available, the option exists to rent out the separate Annexe next door which can sleep a further 2-4 (2 in a sofa bed in the living room).
The house enjoys large proportions throughout with a spacious kitchen/living/dining area on the ground floor and a ‘hard to forget’ upstairs sitting room. There are huge sliding doors in both the downstairs kitchen and upstairs sitting room that perfectly capture the awesome views, and a very dramatic wooden staircase with huge floor-to-ceiling windows, this time giving a great sense of space and grandeur. Aquataine also has the fun addition of a sauna. It's a great house for multiple families together, set within a large plot with a varied array of landscaped garden areas. The gardens curve right around the side and back of the house, and a large terrace allows you to make the best of warm evenings and lunches back from the beach. The Lodge is a spectacular base to relax and settle into Treyarnon beach life.
- Sleeping
Aquataine features 6 bedrooms, 3 on the ground floor and 3 on the first. The ground floor bedrooms begin with a king room with tall windows facing the views to the beach, perfect to watch the waves crashing in. The room is spacious, and has large fitted wardrobe as well as a chest of drawers. The second bedroom on the ground floor is a twin bedroom with ensuite shower room. The third bedroom next door contains the only bunk beds – the room faces the tranquil side garden with views across a small decked area and picnic table.
The remaining bedrooms are all on the first floor, up the wide wooden staircase to the wide and impressive landing on the first floor. The master ensuite commands the best views out across the beach to the headland on the south side of Treyarnon. Next door is a good sized twin room looking out to the side of the house. While across the landing, is the final bedroom, made-up as a king-sized bed, or twin 2ft 6 in beds on request. There are pretty amazing sea views from this bedroom as well.
- Bathrooms
There are two stand-alone bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first. The main family bathroom can be found on the first floor with a bath and large shower cubicle, loo and basin. The ground floor bathroom is a useful shower room with basin and loo. There are two ensuites, one off the main master bedroom and finally, there is the remaining ensuite off the downstairs twin with inbuilt shower, loo and basin. All feature modern bathroom suites and have a contemporary feel.
- Living rooms
There are two large and significant living spaces at Aquataine Lodge. As part of the downstairs kitchen/dining space there is a useful additional relaxing area with comfy sofas. This downstairs space has huge sliding glass doors out of the front of the house, allowing the whole space to be opened up to the outside sea breezes and amazing sea and headland views. At the back of this living area there are also double doors out to the rear and main outside terrace – this is where you will be eating outside and relaxing in the garden. The house dining table is also located in this open plan downstairs living area.
However, the upstairs sitting room is the main relaxing space and features large glass sliding doors that allow masses of brilliant coastal light to flood in. The doors provide access to a large balcony from which the views are captivating, the perfect place to watch the sun go down after a long day at the beach, and there is a small table and chairs provided to take full advantage. The sitting room itself is a large airy space with two sofas and two armchairs to relax on, next to the glow of the wood burner or whilst watching a film on the smart TV. The room is pretty vast, and with its views and access to the balcony, is a pretty special room.
Just off the sitting room upstairs is a useful utility with sink , kettle and under counter fridge, perfect for making a quick cup of tea without having to go downstairs, or chilling and preparing sundowners to enjoy on the balcony! Next to this utility is the sauna which is a truly individual and fun addition to the house and perhaps just perfect for warming up after an out-of-season swim or surf.
- Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen area itself is a very useable open plan space, to the right as you come in from the front door. It is arranged in a U shape with a quality contemporary feel. A door leads directly out to a terraced area with picnic table to enjoy alfresco meals.
The kitchen area leads directly into the dining/living space with a long communal table that seats 10 comfortably and 12 with ease. Huge glass doors and glazing help make this a very light space that enjoys great views down to the beach. It’s a good place for large and celebratory meals!
- Facilities
Aquataine is heated with both oil central heating and a ground source heat pump, along with a large feature wood burner in the upstairs sitting room. There is wireless broadband, large smart screen TV in the upstairs sitting room and in the downstairs living space. There is an electric range oven, microwave and american style double door fridge freezer in the kitchen.
There is a separate downstairs utility room with extra sink and separate washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a useful upstairs utility off the main sitting room with sink and under counter fridge. There is a wood-panelled electric sauna, with room for 2-3 guests at a time.
- Outside
Accessible directly from the main living space is the superb balcony which makes the most of the views over the beach and out to sea. There is also a second balcony straight off the master bedroom which is a superb suntrap.
Aquataine benefits from a large plot with a variety of landscaped garden areas well planted with neat stone retaining walls. There is a large area that is accessible straight out of the kitchen/dining space with picnic table, great for private outdoor dining. There is also an additional smaller decked area with a picnic table. The lawn is flat and large – perfect for cricket or other such ball games. With the beach so close, and such a good garden, you will spend a lot of your days outside, but with the car parked up!
At the front of the house there is ample parking for 2 cars in the main drive and 1 dedicated space only outside the gates.
- Nearby
One of Cornwall’s best beaches is minutes down the private road. You can enjoy its large sweep of sand, wonderful rocks for climbing and pooling, or unbeatable headland walking both north and south. There is also Treyarnon natural swimming pool carved into the rocks – it can be found on Aquataine’s side of the bay, just below the headland past the car park and Youth Hostel. Surfing is also good at Treyarnon – receiving plenty of waves, but a little more manageable than some of the most exposed beaches. Mid to high tide is best. Lifeguards are in place at Treyarnon, May through September.
For a change, you can walk to Constantine Bay in less than 10 minutes across the flat and easy headland. Its fine even for children in pushchairs – and even if carrying your beach gear and picnic!
For local shopping, Treyarnon Bay Stores in the beach car park can be very useful. For all manner of provisions and essentials, as well as your daily milk, bread and newspaper, it’s perfect. For a larger choice, you can walk to Constantine Bay Stores in about 15 minutes. Here you will find a range of quality food that may allow you to really avoid driving all week. Next door is Des’ surf shop for all manner of surf gear, to buy or rent.
Locally, the Youth Hostel past the beach on the right is open to non-residents at different times of the day – for drinks, coffee and snacks. It has improved its range, and really is pretty good now for a light lunch or evening drinks in a fantastic setting and with wonderful views.
Beach barbecues are a regular feature of warm evenings at Treyarnon. Enjoy!
