The Property

  • Atmosphere

South Tamarisk sits in a very private position along a no through road minutes from the beach at Treyarnon and a few hundred yards from the coast path. It has panoramic views out to sea along the coast to Constantine Bay, Booby’s Bay and Trevose head. It is close enough to hear the sea and the odd shriek of a happy holidaymaker, but far enough from the action to provide sanctuary when needed.

It sleeps 13 in 7 bedrooms with 5 modern bathrooms.  It really benefits from a spectacularly light and spacious upstairs sitting room. The sitting room features multiple sky lights and large glass doors that lead out onto the elevated balcony where the sea views are truly inspiring.

The house has been owned by the same family for many years and used as a happy family home. There are some great black and white photos of the local landscape taken by the family that adorn the walls of various rooms throughout the house. It has been recently renovated and has an unusual design with two entirely separate upstairs wings. At one end of the house a staircase leads up to the upstairs sitting room and at the other a second staircase leads up to the three first floor bedrooms and some memorable sea views. On the ground floor there are the three remaining bedrooms, two with en- suite, there is also a convenient smaller 2nd sitting room with comfy sofas and pleasant views out over the garden as well as two further modern bathrooms.

The house itself can be accessed from either side with key safes for both doors. Straight out of the front door is a beautiful paved terrace with sun loungers and an outdoor table which provides a superb suntrap.  Below the terrace the garden itself is very spacious and feels very private given its proximity to the beach. The garden really benefits from mature hedges and the occasional tantalising sea glimpse; it has a large lawned area and a pleasant selection of different shrubs and plants including a pretty array of rose bushes.

  • Sleeping

South Tamarisk features 7 bedrooms in all. There are 4 bedrooms on the ground floor and three bedrooms on the first. The ground floor bedrooms are made up of two twins, one at the base of the staircase up to the upstairs bedrooms and one by the front door leading out onto the terrace which features large glass doors which you can open up and walk straight out onto the terrace. The last two bedrooms on the ground floor are a super king with en-suite towards the front left corner of the house and a king bedroom with en-suite bathroom next door. Most enjoy super views across the pretty garden with the turquoise of the sea visible over and through the hedge.

The other 3 bedrooms along with the family bathroom are all in the second upstairs wing. The bedrooms consist of a king bedroom on the right hand side as you come up the stairs which benefits from some commanding sea views from a well positioned corner window. A single room off to the left as you reach the top of the stairs which is a useful and light double aspect room great for a grandparent or a nanny. The final bedroom is a super king room at the end of the landing again with great views out to sea. The upstairs bedrooms all feature wash basins and all bedrooms feature matching chests of drawers and bedside tables, with the larger bedrooms having very useful spacious wardrobes. All bedrooms have a calming colour palette and a stylish mixture of distinctive coastal patterned cushions and curtains.

  • Bathrooms

There are three separate bathrooms and two en- suites; all fitted out to a high standard, they feel fresh and modern with neutral coloured tiles and quality fixtures and fittings. There are two separate bathrooms on the ground floor the first has a large contemporary inbuilt shower; loo and basin. The second ground floor bathroom again has a modern built in shower cubicle, loo and basin. The last separate family bathroom is on the first floor bedroom wing and has a bath with hand shower, separate shower cubicle, loo and wash basin.

Both en-suites are on the ground floor, the king room at the end of the corridor features a bath with shower over, a basin and loo. The remaining en - suite is off the super king bedroom and features a shower cubicle, loo and basin.

  • Living room

There are two living rooms at South Tamarisk. On the ground floor there is a cosy living room with comfy seating and TV. It is a nice place to relax in, away from the commotion and pick a good book to read off the shelf.

The second living room is the most spectacular room in the house; it is on the first floor and benefits from multiple sky lights and large glass doors that lead out invitingly to the balcony. From here you can sit back, relax and enjoy the familiar sights, sounds and smells of the sea. There is ample seating with three; three seater sofas arranged in a very social U shape with a smart TV. There is also additional seating in two comfy armchairs and a traditional rocking chair that face the views out of the sliding doors and out to sea. Finishing off the room is a grand piano which takes pride of place in the corner of the living space - great for providing a change of atmosphere. Finally the playful artwork and sculptures finish off what is a truly vibrant and inviting space to spend time in.

  • Kitchen and dining

The Kitchen is an L shaped open plan space starting as a galley kitchen with modern kitchen units either side, these units then wrap around the corner of the room where the whole space opens up into a larger dining area with a large wooden table. The dining table can seat 10 comfortably or 13 for a special occasion. It also benefits from a good selection of cookbooks to help spark creative communal meals. A large larder cupboard provides a very convenient space to store away holiday supplies.  It has good natural light with views out the back of the house to the paved back garden; it also benefits from good afternoon sun.

  • Facilities

South Tamarisk enjoys full oil central heating and wireless broadband. In the main upstairs lounge there is a large flat screen TV with DVD player and speakers, a Hi – fi system, and for those after something little more low - tech there is also a grand piano. In the ground floor sitting room there is also a second TV.

There is a large garage on the way in through the back door, with ample space to store beach gear. This then leads into a large utility room with sink and American style fridge freezer, with a smaller separate utility space off this with sink also. All this space makes South Tamarisk ideal for large groups.

Outside

Leading out the front door is a large paved terrace the perfect place to enjoy the views, sunbathe or read a book. The front lawned garden is a large size with ample space for ball games; it is well planted and offers some great snapshots of the sea. It has a sturdy wooden picnic table to enjoy lunch or dinner, a pleasant selection of different shrubs and plants and a well manicured lawn.

There is also a peaceful paved back garden which enjoys some good afternoon sun and is a practical place to dry clothes on the outdoor clothes airer.

There is ample parking for 3 or 4 cars on the private drive leading up to the back entrance, where there is also a useful outside shower attached to the side of the house, great for the post beach clean up.

Nearby

One of Cornwall’s best beaches is minutes down the coast path. You can enjoy its large sweep of sand, wonderful rocks for climbing and pooling, or unbeatable headland walking both north and south. There is also Treyarnon natural swimming pool carved into the rocks which can be found a short walk out on the coastal path below the headland. Surfing is also good at Treyarnon – receiving plenty of waves, but a little more manageable than some of the most exposed beaches. Mid to high tide is best. Lifeguards are in place at Treyarnon, May through September.

For a change, you can walk to Constantine Bay which is almost as close, in less than 10 minutes across the flat and easy headland. Its fine even for children in pushchairs – and even if carrying your beach gear and picnic!

For local shopping, Treyarnon Bay Stores in the beach car park can be very useful. For all manner of provisions and essentials, as well as your daily milk, bread and newspaper, it’s perfect. For a larger choice, you can walk to Constantine Bay Stores in about 15 minutes. Here you will find a range of quality food that may allow you to really avoid driving all week. Next door is Des’ surf shop for all manner of surf gear, to buy or rent.

Locally, the Youth Hostel is just a 2 minute walk from the house towards the beach at Treyarnon. It is open to non residents at different times of the day – for drinks, coffee and snacks. It has improved its range, and really is pretty good now for a light lunch or evening drinks in a fantastic setting and with wonderful views. Beach barbecues are also a regular feature of warm evenings at Treyarnon. Enjoy!

We love South Tamarisk. I think that that’s our fourth stay there. We all suffer from the delusion that it’s ours!  The location is perfect, and the house is so well-equipped. I can’t think that any of us had anything negative to say

Stayed: 22nd Jun 2023

Thank you for a fabulous week at South Tamarisk. I would like to express interest in rebooking for next summer once the owner has released available dates please. We have flexibility throughout june and if there was an option, we would be interested in 2 week stay. Appreciate that may be greedy but worth requesting.

Stayed: 18th May 2023

Excellent as always

Stayed: 20th Apr 2023

Thank you for your e-mail. We had a wonderful holiday at South Tamarisk. The house was very well equipped and very comfortable. We also liked the proximity to the beach.
We had a problem with the heating and hot water which was very quickly rectified. Thank you for sorting that for us.
I would be very interested in staying for the same week next year.

Stayed: 1st Apr 2023

Our third visit to South Tamarisk and it is still as lovely as ever.  The house is perfect for all of us.  It is so well equipped and provides everything we need.  We would definitely like to return next year either during the same week or, alternatively, during the May half term week (25 May-1 June) if available and depending on cost.  We will look forward to hearing from you later in the year.

Stayed: 16th Apr 2022

We absolutely love the house, the position, we’ve barely used the car all week, walking and busses! The house is well equipped and had plenty of storage space, we can’t wait to stay again!

Stayed: 12th Aug 2021

Thanks for another lovely week in the FANTASTIC South Tamarisk!! Despite not seeing very much sunshine we all had a great time.

Stayed: 30th Jul 2020

Just wanted to thank you for another wonderful week in this fabulous house! Didn’t have the best of weather but the children and grand children simply don’t care. Please thank your cleaning staff as we were able to get in really early last Thursday which was a huge help and for being patient this morning as we were a little behind!

Stayed: 20th Jun 2019

We had a lovely time at South Tamarisk as ever.

Stayed: 13th Jun 2019

Had a great holiday, as we always do, thank you!

Stayed: 24th May 2019

Another fantastic stay at South Tamerisk, thank you

Stayed: 9th May 2019

the house was probably the best equipped that we have stayed in to date and completely met all our needs
* garden and position an absolute bonus
* as always so good to have a tea tray, milk and cake on arrival whilst we wait for our Tesco delivery
* plenty of hot water for everyone – but adults needed to assist younger children due to the water temperature
* the garage drying space for hanging wet suits was brilliant too
* very helpful booking service and even for minor last minute needs too

Raintree Says:

Thank you for letting us know about the water temperature. We will get the caretaker to investigate and turn the water temperature down if possible.

Stayed: 26th Oct 2018

The house was perfect for our family, amazingly well equipped, spacious and in a great location.  Great pre arrival instructions and details from Raintree made finding it and getting in very easy. Was nice to get a few texts from you whilst we were there even if we didn’t get around to replying!

Stayed: 4th Oct 2018

House in very good order and lovely and clean.  Thank you very much

Stayed: 26th Jul 2018

We all think that South Tamarisk is the best Raintree house we’ve stayed in.

Location: ideal (beaten only by the view from South Corner which is too small for us now).

Bedrooms: all fantastic – so no-one has to get ‘the dud one’ – and beds all super comfy 😊

Bathrooms: fantastic – if only ours at home were of the same quality!!!

Facilities/equipment etc: completely fabulous!!!! Makes our own houses look lacking in utensils etc!!!!! Everything from the bespoke cheese knife to the grand piano were appreciated!

Welcome cake: everyone loved the welcome cake – thank you!

If Raintree had offered us a two for the price of one week we would have said YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One week was not long enough!

Negatives:

  1. Some of the windows didn’t open or didn’t have keys. (in one of the upstairs bedrooms only one side window opened even though ideally we wanted a through-draught)
  2. For a house so well-appointed it was strange to have such thin / light curtains.   We would have preferred darker curtains or curtains with linings as they all let the early morning light in (too early!)

Raintree Says:

Thank you for your great feedback!

The owner has confirmed that there are keys for all the windows in the house that hang next to each window, although some may have been misplaced. She aims to get these organised over the winter months.

The owner also confirmed that all curtains are fully lined in the house. However, black out blinds are available on request from Raintree House Holidays if needed.

Stayed: 21st Jun 2018

It was our fourth holiday as a family (which now includes grandchildren) at South Tamarisk  and it has become a very special place to us all.
We love South Tamarisk and find it very well equipped. This year however as we were lucky enough to have such fantastic weather we did find the sun blinding in the upstairs lounge and it would have been good to have some blinds / curtains, we saw that curtain rails had been put up so maybe it is something that is already being sorted.
On our first day we did need to get a replacement toaster and we were very impressed that one arrived within an hour of our call to you. Excellent service. We  always find all the staff at Raintree extremely helpful and friendly.

Raintree Says:

Thank you for your lovely feedback and the comments about curtains in the lounge we will certainly pass this on to the owner!

Owner's Reply:-

“We are so pleased that you like South Tamarisk and hope that you enjoyed happy times with friends and family as we have. You are absolutely right about the need for curtains in the upstairs sitting room. We fitted Velux blinds over the winter and had curtains made for the windows. They were finished and hung this week - it took me a while to find exactly the right fabric - looks v smart now!”

Stayed: 24th May 2018

We had a wonderful holiday as usual at South Tamarisk, it suits our requirements so well. We also had our usual good weather.

Stayed: 10th May 2018

Had a great time again this year in a fantastic house and location

Stayed: 5th Apr 2018

Many thanks, we had a wonderful break at South Tamarisk to celebrate my 50th and we were so lucky with the weather.  My brother and sister joined us with their families.  Treyarnon is close to our hearts as we used to holiday there every year as children.

Stayed: 22nd Dec 2017

We had a great week at South Tamarisk a wonderful house, it was everything you could wish for.   Much better than the photos.

Stayed: 19th Oct 2017

Can I thank Raintree for yet another stunning house and allowing us to spend a lovely week in such a special place.
The high standards Raintree set are much appreciated

Stayed: 20th Aug 2017

All was well organised and house very clean and well maintained.  Many thanks.

Stayed: 17th Aug 2017

South Tamarisk was excellent but would benefit from a second dishwasher given its size. Raintree were also excellent. We liked the touches of the towels, soaps, wash up liquid etc, the cake on arrival and especially the cleaning at end of first week!

Stayed: 3rd Aug 2017

We had a wonderful stay, the house could not be located more perfectly, ideal for families and extremely well equipped.
Thank you again for the wonderful holiday accommodation

Stayed: 27th Jul 2017

South Tamarisk is a very comfortable and everything you need. It is so well set up, everything is quality.

Two very minor criticisms. Could do with a wedge for bedroom door in the bedroom on right at top of stairs. If any wind the door rattles. I meant to take a wedge this year and ended up with newspaper, not always satisfactory!
The other one is only a wish. Real competition by adults to use those two chairs by the window in the upstairs sitting room. It would be wonderful if there was another comfy chair, even a small one would have been nice.

Stayed: 27th Jul 2017

We loved the house and it suited us perfectly but of course there are always one or two things that could be improved.    We thought a spare fridge would be a good option rather than a spare freezer.

We also thought the showering facilities could be improved in the bathroom with a screen.

However, everything else we could have wanted was provided, particularly so in the kitchen, which was extremely well equipped.
