  • Atmosphere

The Buck was one of the first houses to be built at Treyarnon Bay, just before the Second World War, and still retains some of its original features and character. The incredible view over the garden and across the bay to Trevose Head is visible from nearly every window. Inside, slate floors, a modern kitchen and a cosy sitting room make The Buck a comfortable house to stay at. There is a beach house feel, with living spilling outside whenever possible – but enough room inside when necessary. For most that stay, The Buck becomes a very special memory.

  • Sleeping

Three of the four bedrooms are located on the 1st floor, all are sea-facing with jaw-dropping views. To the left hand end of the landing is a dual aspect room with two single beds, both large comfortable 3ft singles. The room is furnished with matching chest of drawers, bedside cabinet and a fitted hanging cupboard.

The master bedroom is in the centre and has a king-size double bed, matching furniture of chest of drawers and bedside cabinets, and a fitted hanging cupboard. There is also a wash basin. It has the same fabulous views across to the beach and beyond. To the right is the third upstairs bedroom – it is also dual aspect and has two 3ft single beds, chest of drawers, fitted hanging cupboard, bedside table, and wash basin.

Downstairs, behind the sitting room there is a pretty double bedded room with a large wardrobe with hanging space, shelving and full length mirror. It has windows looking out over the garden.

  • Bathrooms

The refurbished bathroom is located downstairs at the back of the house. It is equipped with bath, separate walk-in shower, and large basin. There is a cloakroom with loo and basin also on the ground floor near the bottom of the stairs. On the first floor, there is a separate loo only with basins in each of the first floor bedrooms.

  • Living

The house is entered from the back door into a back hall, where the large fridge/freezer and washing machine are kept. The floors are Cornish slate. The centre of the house is largely a hall located between the sitting room and the kitchen. There is a small coffee table and a couple of easy chairs here. Large sliding doors open the front of the house out to the impressive terrace,  garden and the sea beyond. The garden slopes away here, leading your eye towards the view. To the left is the sitting room with windows overlooking the garden and down to the beach. In the sitting room there is a large  sofa running around under the windows, book shelves, a chest of drawers, the TV and DVD. There is also a wood burning stove – great fun and very effective for winter weeks, or even chilly evenings in May. Double doors link the sitting room to the hall which can be opened fully to give a larger living area.

  • Kitchen and Dining

Similar double doors also divide the kitchen from the hall. With wooden beams above and a feature fireplace and mantle-piece, the light and airy kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, electric hob and built in oven, microwave, toaster, and kettle, with ample cupboard space and work surfaces. There is lovely Cornish blue and white tableware as well as Le Creuset cookware. The window facing the beach is enormous and provides quite amazing views.

Placed in the window is the extendable dining table and chairs. It is wonderful to sit here and look across to the sandy bay and cliffs and on to the lighthouse at Trevose Head.

  • Facilities

The Buck is heated with storage heaters and the wood burner and is equipped with wireless broadband, TV and DVD. There is a dishwasher. In the back hall there is a washing machine and a separate tumble-dryer.

  • Outside

The large garden which surrounds the house is laid to lawn and generally slopes towards the sea and beach – seeming to making the view even more irresistible.  The top of the garden and down near the bottom hedge are flat and good for ball games and other activities. There is a large terrace, sheltered from the wind with a picnic table and a brick barbeque at the side of the house. At the bottom of the garden is a gate leading down to the beach only 75 yards away! There is a table and 4 sun-beds with mattresses a in the garage. This has been recently converted and now provides extensive storage for surfboards and wetsuits. There are also a couple of wooden benches on which to relax and read a good book! For cooks, the stone walls around the garden are dotted with flat leaf parsley – and mint can be found on the way down to the beach.

  • Nearby

Treyarnon’s amazing beach is right on your doorstep. A gate at the bottom of the garden provides easy access to one of Cornwall's most attractive surfing beaches - lifeguards are on duty during the summer months. Only a minute’s walk will take you down the well-worn path onto the beach. You can enjoy its large sweep of sand, wonderful rocks for climbing and pooling, or unbeatable headland walking both north and south. There is also Treyarnon’s natural swimming pool carved into the rocks – it can be found on the far side of the bay below the headland. Surfing is also good at Treyarnon – receiving plenty of waves, but a little more manageable than some of the most exposed beaches. Mid to high tide is best. Lifeguards are in place at Treyarnon, May through September. The Trethias side of the beach is special – no through road for cars and no general parking – meaning that it is quiet and safe.

For a change, you can walk to Constantine Bay in less than 10 minutes across the flat and easy headland over the far side of the beach. Its fine even for children in pushchairs once you are across the beach – and even if carrying your beach gear and picnic!

Walking is very easily accessible. Just take the path along the headland as you head down to the beach, past banks of wild flowers and garlic. The headland above the beach is very lovely and comfortable to lie back and relax for a while, or to look down on Trethias Island. Walking on towards Porthcothan is beautiful and dramatic.

For local shopping, Treyarnon Bay Stores in the beach car park can be very useful. For all manner of provisions and essentials, as well as your daily milk, bread and newspaper, it’s perfect. For a larger choice, you can walk to Constantine Bay Stores in about 15 minutes. Here you will find a range of quality food that may allow you to really avoid driving all week. Next door is Des’ surf shop for all manner of surf gear, to buy or rent.

Locally, the Youth Hostel across the beach is open to non residents at different times of the day – for drinks, coffee and snacks.

Thanks, was a lovely break and we really enjoyed our 2nd visit to the Buck. It’s a lovely cottage in a great location. Unfortunately, we are not in a position at this time to commit to a stay next year.

Stayed: 9th Aug 2022

Thank you for your email. We had a great week staying in The Buck – the house was perfect for us and in a great location. The house had all facilities we needed.

Thank you for your help and it was nice to meet some of your team during our stay.
Thank you for the chocolate cake – it was delicious and didn’t last until Easter!

Stayed: 10th Oct 2018

Stayed: 12th Jun 2018

We loved the new terraces at The Buck, back and front, and are delighted with the greater accessibility that the ramp provides.

Stayed: 5th Jun 2018

We had an absolutely fantastic week in The Buck!
Weather was lovely and had an extra treat when we saw dolphins swimming across Treyarnon bay
Spent a lot of time on the terrace enjoying the view and the cake which was left for our arrival was a nice touch and was tucked in to very quickly with a cup of tea after a long drive
Would love to have the opportunity to holiday in The Buck again next year
Thanks for a brilliant holiday
Shower head was a bit loose and wouldn’t stay upright properly so was directing at the wall more than on the person showering. A new shower head or fixing might help with this

Raintree Says:

Thank you for your lovely feedback and letting us know about the shower the caretaker will go in and have a look at the first opportunity.

Stayed: 24th Apr 2018

Had a lovely time – thank you. Looking forward to returning in October.

Thank you for letting us know in advance that there would be some building work next door. Whilst on the first day there was a lot of noise and we had to keep our dogs inside, the rest of the week the disruption was minimal. Great house and service!
