Join us for October half term in Cornwall

There’s something about autumn in Cornwall that just feels a little bit magical. The beaches are quieter, the air turns crisp and suddenly everything slows down just enough to soak it all in. October half term is the perfect excuse to rest and reset after a busy summer and tucked between coastal walks and cosy pub lunches, there are plenty of activities to really make the most of your autumnal escape.

So why is October half term really one of the best times to visit?

Fewer crowds but still that Cornwall buzz

The beaches are emptier, the coast path more open and parking suddenly becomes less of an issue! While we may not have the weather of summer, the chillier days do mean Cornwall starts to wind down after a busy season but we still have enough life in us yet to see us through until Christmas! Without the August crowds, you can explore at your own pace and take your time to muse through the streets of Padstow or while away the hours on a brisk walk at Harlyn Bay

Special half term events

It may not be August but there’s still LOTS to do throughout October and November. For some Halloween ideas for the whole family, be sure to check out The Big Pumpkin Patch at the Royal Cornwall Showground, set to put even those missing the warmer days in the mood for Autumn. There are family events on all across the seven bays so we would always recommend checking local Facebook and social media pages for lots to do!

The sea is STILL warm!

Believe it or not, the sea is actually at its warmest throughout September and October, having had the whole of summer (and it’s been especially hot this year!) to warm through. We’re not talking the bath water temperatures of the Indian Ocean, but warm enough to be refreshing rather than bitterly cold like the depths of winter. Be sure to check tide times and surfing forecasts if you are brave enough to head in and stick to lifeguarded beaches wherever possible

Have fun whatever the weather!

This is a no brainer! Dig out those wellies (they’re in there somewhere!), check the raincoat is still waterproof and don’t let the rain spoil your plans! There are plenty of things to do that aren’t weather dependent. How about:

Crabbing – remember to treat all of our sea creatures with respect and return them to the water safely
Cycle the Camel Trail – a perfect activity on a drizzly day
Catch the ferry from Padstow to Rock – enjoy some lunch at Havener’s and wander the streets of Rock before heading back to Padstow
Mozy along the coast path – you might want to avoid on SUPER windy days but there’s something special about taking in the scenery in the rain

And for some more half term events…

Try Hallow-Eden at the Eden Project for lots of spooky goings on!
