Make your October half term one to remember…

October half term activities for all the family

Immerse yourself in the rugged atmosphere of Cornwall this half term. Whether it’s a blustery beach walk before cosying up in a country pub by the log fire or making the most of all the spooky (and non-spooky!) activities Cornwall has to offer, there’s something for all the family, even four legged friends!

1. After Dark Ghost Hunt – Bodmin Jail

For the brave and bold, Bodmin Jail offers their popular ghost hunt experience until 1st November. Experience the historical jail in a different light, after dark but with experienced paranormal investigators. Book ahead to avoid disappointment and this is adults only! Not one for the faint hearted!

2. Cardinham Woods Halloween Family Fun – Cardinham Woods, Bodmin

For some autumnal, Halloween inspired fun, Cardinham Woods are hosting a family fun morning on 31st October from 10:30am – 12:30pm. Fancy dress optional but always recommended! Afterwards, why not explore the rambling woodland trails in all of their Autumn glory.

3. Wrap up for a blustery beach walk

Make the most of quiet beaches and enjoy a brisk beach walk. Four legged family members never mind the weather and will love to make the most of the most dog friendly time of year. We have many beaches on our doorstep but Porthcothan, Harlyn Bay and Mawgan Porth are firm favourites. Those brave enough might even want to try a dip in the sea! Warm up by the fire afterwards with a hot chocolate or two!

4. Howl-O-Ween Doggy Market – Royal Cornwall Showground

This doggy-dedicated event promises a jam packed day with activities and entertainment for dogs and people alike! Highlights include a themed dog show, pumpkin dog treat trail, spooky obstacle course plus over 30 dog themed exhibitors. No doubt one to add to the calendar for Sunday 2nd November!

5. Visit the cinema!

Rainy day and unsure what to do? Why not make a trip to the cinema and ride out the rain watching the latest movies! The Regal in Wadebridge or the Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay offer a large selection of films for all and tie it in with a wander around the shops too!

6. Camel Creek – Pumpkin Fest

Nothing says autumn like pumpkins and Camel Creek’s Pumpkin Fest is always a winner! Every child gets a pumpkin on arrival and you can even pick your own in their pumpkin field. With spooky attractions and eerie surprises, it’s the perfect chance to pop your wellies on and enjoy some muddy Halloween fun!

7. Explore The Eden Project

An experience like no other! Eden is world renowned for its sustainability initiatives and exploring the biomes gives you a glimpse into climates around the world. Eden makes learning fun and is another day out that has something for everyone. Enjoy some delicious, freshly cooked food in one of their restaurants before following the rambling path through the biomes, learning about the steps that are being taken to protect our planet. Book your tickets beforehand to avoid queues!

8. Lanhydrock – National Trust (Bodmin)

Spend the day immersed in nature at Lanhydrock House. With miles of picturesque countryside and woodland trails, you can burn off some steam before exploring the historical Victorian house and learning all about the Agar-Robartes family and their estate. Enjoy a cup of tea and cake in the cafe afterwards for the perfect autumn warmer!

(National Trust members enter for free!)

9. The Camel Trail – Wadebridge to Padstow

Don’t let the Cornish mizzle put you off; the Camel Trail is open whatever the weather! An 18 mile traffic free, flat path running from Bodmin to Padstow, the Camel Trail is popular all year round but more peaceful in the quieter months. The most commonly cycled section is Wadebridge to Padstow (and back!) where you can hire bikes at either end and then spend the afternoon exploring the beaches, shops and bars of Padstow. Great for couples, children and dogs! (The rentals even provide dog trailers!)

10. Lappa Valley Fireworks Spectacular – Newquay

One of Cornwall’s hidden gems, Lappa Valley is perfect for any train fan. Located just outside of Newquay, they are one of the most popular destinations for families, focusing on train-themed fun and soft play! Their renowned firework displays are held on the 31st October and 1st November and promise a dazzling display of rockets and candles in front of their 19th Century wheel house. The perfect way to round off a fun filled day!
