Atmosphere

Millingworth Mill is an idyllic, magical and very special property steeped in history with huge amounts of character and interest. It sits in its own substantial gardens, tucked behind the Church in the tiny, pretty hamlet of St Ervan, just inland slightly from the Seven Bays area and the popular harbour town of Padstow. Once a former Mill which stopped operating in 1850, the cottage has been lovingly restored in a quirky and contemporary style and some of the remains of the working Mill buildings can still be seen to either side of the house.

Millingworth Mill oozes charm from the moment you drive down the private driveway and over the ford to pull up in front of this picture box cottage, surrounded by its beautifully maintained gardens. As you step through the door the charm continues. Beamed ceilings, slate floors, a wood burner and plenty of quirky features meet you as you step in to this cosy, welcoming, traditional Cornish cottage.

If its your style, you'll love Millingworth Mill.

Kitchen, Living and Dining

As you enter the house you step immediately into the large dining room with heavy wooden dining table and chairs and quirky décor, there is enough space to seat eight comfortably here. Through the archway to the left and up a small step you find the cosy living room with large flat screen TV, comfortable sofa and Ercol seating, with plenty of room for all the family to sit comfortably. The large log burner with its granite lintel is the focal point of the living room, perfect for cosy evenings in with a glass of wine.

The Kitchen is to the rear of the house, accessible through a door directly off the dining area. The galley style kitchen is well equipped and spacious. The bespoke wooden cupboards, double Belfast sink and granite work surfaces compliment the style and quality of the rest of the house. There is a large SMEG fridge freezer, with plenty of room for a large family shop and integrated dishwasher and washer dryer. It will be a pleasure to cook on the double range oven set back in a nook at the end of the kitchen.

At the opposite end of the kitchen there is more storage and a breakfast bar, perfect for feeding the kids! Beyond that is the downstairs cloakroom and the side door leading out into the garden and the remaining walls of the old mill which house an amazing bespoke outside shower.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

This house sleeps six comfortably with two optional single bedrooms available on request. One of these good sized optional single bedrooms can be found downstairs next to the cloakroom, with direct access out to the garden and huge amounts of light flooding in through the window. Climb the wooden staircase in the centre of the house, lit by a chandelier, to the spacious bedrooms and large family bathroom on the first floor; all with stripped wooden floors and beamed ceilings. Take a few more steps up to the first of the three large double bedrooms with king size beds. This room runs almost the whole length of the house, has two large windows letting in plenty of light and is furnished with some stylish, restored, antique furniture, including a large wardrobe and a modern, comfortable bed.

To the left at the top of the stairs is another decent size bedroom with good quality furniture and a king size bed; the window has a view out over the garden. In the centre of the house off the landing area is the spacious family bathroom, complete with claw foot bath, perfect for a relaxing bath looking out over the garden. Although this is the only bathroom inside the house and does not have stand up shower, only a shower attachment over the bath, there is a stunning, large, wooden outdoor shower to the side of the property that can be used all year round. Here you can wash off the sand and salt from a day on the beach, before entering the house through the side door of the property.

Next to the bathroom is a walk through room to the final bedroom. This room doubles as a den room (where the kids can hang out) and is the second optional single bedroom if needed. There are comfy bean bags here and a table perfect for tucking yourself away and using the laptop. The final bedroom upstairs has a grander feel to it with an impressive black chandelier and bespoke wrought iron, king size bed. This was originally two rooms and the beams are still in place, making a lovely feature.

Facilities

Millingworth Mill features a large wood burner and oil fired central heating throughout, making sure it is warm all year round. The kitchen incorporates a dishwasher, washer dryer and large SMEG fridge freezer and plenty of storage space. There is Super Fast BT wireless broadband throughout the house and a land line phone.

Outside

The garden at Millingworth Mill is an enchanting world for guests to explore. It almost encircles the house and incorporates two walled seating areas, with plenty of space for the whole family to sit and enjoy food cooked on the BBQ.

A river runs through the middle of the garden, with ferns and huge gunnera growing on its banks. Here guests can sit on the granite benches on either side listening to the water trickle by or swing on the rope swing over the stream, while the kids paddle in its waters. The garden is a wildlife haven and dragonflies can often be spotted skipping over the water here. Step over the stepping stones to find another bench and a pond under the willow tree. A picnic bench is hidden at the top of the garden amongst the trees, perfect for a quiet lunch. The garden can also be accessed through a small hobbit like wooden doorway in the wall half way up the driveway.

*Please do note that this magical garden has a stream, a ford and a pond, which are not roped off. Therefore, guests will need to consider if this is suitable for the members of their party when booking and use the garden at their own risk.

Nearby

Millingworth Mill is located back from the beaches in the pretty village of St Ervan, sandwiched between the villages of Penrose and Rumford. The closest beaches are Porthcothan, Treyarnon, Constantine, or Mawgan Porth heading towards Newquay. Harlyn and Trevone are also close. All the beaches can be reached in 10 minutes by car.

There are no facilities in the village itself but it is just a 10 minute drive from the village of St Merryn and slightly further to the popular, bustling, harbour town of Padstow, where you will find plenty of shops and restaurants. For local shopping there is a small farm shop near to St Eval church selling lovely fresh produce and operating an honesty box system. There is also a small general store at the post office at St Eval selling essentials including bread, milk and pasties!

Whilst staying in the village a visit to St Ervan Church is worthwhile, it features a display about the poet Sir John Betjeman who mentions the church in his poem ‘Summoned by Bells’. Behind the house is a public footpath following the old leat (mill stream) that used to lead to the Mill. There is also a stile to the left of the house leading to a lovely walk along the river, all the way to Porthcothan Bay.

An absolutely brilliant way to spend half term.

We stumbled across this property on the website and fell in love with it before we even got there. When we arrived it didn’t disappoint. It is hidden away at the end of a tiny little lane on the other side of a ford. The property is set in gorgeous gardens, complete with rope swing across the stream which our kids absolutely loved. The house itself is brilliantly equipped for all self catering needs, and is beautifully decorated/furnished. 10 mins drive to Padstow and the beaches, we had a truly awesome few days, so much so my son cried when we had to leave and he is 8. haha.

Holiday was fabulous, thank you.

We really enjoyed staying at Millingworth Mill. We thought that the outdoor shower was a really good idea as it meant that sand didn’t get brought into the house when we came back from surfing.
It’s a really pretty place, was very comfortable and well-equipped. Thank you for letting us stay.
