Sailaway is a very special property set just back from the beach at Constantine Bay. It has been built to a very high standard, and is designed to provide its guests with a particularly special stay. The house extends from its split-level garden floors, up through two further levels, with a wide range of accommodation and entertaining potential. It has been laid out for enjoyment and relaxation – with interesting and high quality fixtures and fittings throughout.
Its outdoor space is matched only by the light and atmosphere created throughout by the high ceilings and huge picture windows. Fascinating hallways abound, providing a welcome feeling of space and calm. Stylish oak and glass stairways give a nautical feel to the house. The attention to detail throughout is unrivalled. The views from the balcony, main living areas and kitchen are particularly fantastic.
The house has four bedrooms arranged throughout the property. The master bedroom is found at the front of the property, off the main hall by the front door. It is an impressive room with large walk-in wardrobes and dressing area, and a very spacious and attractive ensuite shower room. The bed is king-size with an oak wooden frame and John Lewis pocket-sprung mattress. The room is dominated by natural light coming from the cathedral type windows overlooking the front garden. Attractive curtains are lined in black out material to ensure a good nights sleep and two beautiful crystal lights complete a very special bedroom.
Going down to the lower garden level, through the hall leads to all the ground floor accommodation. A large central living space provides a comfortable sofa, bean bag, small rocking chair and flat screen TV with games console. This room opens out onto the sea side terrace and garden, with access via large French Doors. Also leading off this spacious area is the 2nd double room and an attractive twin.
The large and airy double room is furnished elegantly with a beech and white king-size bedstead, antique pine chest of drawers and huge mirror. The bed again has a deliciously comfortable pocket-sprung mattress. A fitted wardrobe provides ample clothes storage. Wooden heart ornaments, a blue and white blackout blind framed by white faux curtains completes a restful bedroom. The dual aspect twin bedroom can be found across the second living area, and is decorated in a seaside theme with ‘boat and beach hut’ curtains from Clarke and Clarke. There is a chest of drawers, ample hanging space and two bedside drawers. On the lower garden level is the utility/ galley area and a large bath/shower room which makes this lower garden floor almost self-contained – perfect for a second family.
At the top of the house, a short staircase leads up to the final bedroom. It’s a very attractive twin room with its own ensuite with loo and wash basin. The room is furnished with luxury Vi-Spring beds and a small dressing table with a rope upholstered stool and large wooden mirror. The twin beds have high quality mattresses. A good night sleep is aided by the blackout pull down blinds provided for the two Velux windows. A fitted wardrobe with shelving ensures all is kept ship shape.
Sailaway can sleep an extra 1 or 2 guests if needed on the comfortable sofa bed that is located in the spacious hall area of the lower garden level. This allows Sailaway to sleep up to 10 when needed - please let us know if you need the sofa bed when booking.
Sailaway provides plenty of bathing and showering options – all beautifully finished. The main family bathroom can be found on the lower garden level, with large bath and separate large, rectangular waterfall shower cubicle. The basin is framed by an elegant arch. The main bathroom is luxury tiled throughout. The main bedroom’s ensuite follows the same theme. Plenty of space and a huge corner shower enclosure with high quality tiling throughout.
The top floor bedroom has an ensuite with loo and washbasin and there is also a cloakroom off the main living area on the 1st floor.
The 1st floor at Sailaway provides a huge open-plan living space. The room is magnificent with two sets of floor to ceiling French doors opening out onto the large balcony. Two large sofas and assorted easy chairs make comfortable seating whilst relaxing and enjoying the view. Huge cathedral style windows provide fantastic light, framed by large swooping curtains which give a luxurious almost tent-like feel in the early evening. Out of season, or for chilly evenings, a gas ‘wood’ burner provides instant heat and a cosy ambience. An antique painted wooden dresser decorates the back of the room- giving storage for glassware, books and games.
The centre of this living space is dominated by a large dining table – with ample space for up to 10. Dining with the doors open to the balcony and the view down to Constantine Bay beyond is quite magical. Lovely touches of design abound. A small table and chairs allow even the youngest to enjoy a meal together!
On the balcony, two bistro tables and chairs provide the opportunity for morning coffee, a lunch time Pimms ,or pre dinner drinks .Also the perfect place to relax with a good book or to watch the sunset . Downstairs on the partially covered natural slate terrace, there is outside furniture and is another useful option for alfresco dining. A large charcoal BBQ is also provided for use away from under the balcony area.

The beach at Constantine can be reached down the beach road at the end of the lane or you can just continue down the rural lane to meet the footpath at the end. This path links the golf course with the beach – so just turn right to stroll up to the club house, or left for the beach. The path emerges in the middle of the fantastic dunes at the top of the Constantine beach after less than 5 minutes walk, and is perfect when heading for Booby’s Bay or on to magnificent Trevose Head. Sailaway is surrounded by some of Cornwall’s finest beaches – all within a few minutes walk or drive.
St Merryn is the nearby village providing petrol, a deli, pubs and shops, as well as a number of places to eat and drink. Padstow is only 10 minutes drive away -with its array of boutique shops and gourmet eateries.
Sailaway has been built on a plot of land owned for many years by the Harris family, whose holiday home, Wastehills, is a nearby property at Constantine Bay. In the early nineteen hundreds, the author Catharine Amy Dawson Scott bought many strips of land in the locality. The area was then known as The Wastralls, Cornish for rough or unused land. She built Wastehills for herself, as well as three other properties for her three children: the original Harlequin (then a small wooden house), Lynx and Holt.
She entertained Galsworthy, Rebecca West, Noel Coward, and many other famous writers of the time at Wastehills. The Harris family rented Faraway for many years as their holiday retreat before buying Wastehills in the late 1940s - and with Wastehills came the extra land on which the Sailaway now stands. The family like to think that Catharine would have loved Sailaway and that future generations will continue to enjoy the beauty of this unique and very special part of Cornwall.

We had a lovely time and the house worked out really well for us. Your service was very good and if anything went wrong you responded immediately.
Only two small issues – in the man ensuite bedroom, the shower thermostat was a little flaky and sometimes we had cold showers!!! As we had such fab weather last week, not really a problem, but thought you should know. Also because of the wooden floors in the living areas, the noise in the bedrooms was quite loud. Had the owners thought of rugs, even cheaper ones from say Ikea, to cut out some of the noise??? Only a suggestion as we really loved the house, the garden and the views from the terrace were wonderful.
All in all it was nigh on perfect.
Thank you for your feedback on the shower and we are sorry that you had a problem, We have had a plumber look at it and it is now working fine.
With regard to the question of rugs, the owners do sometimes put these down in the winter but generally , and we know that many guests agree, they prefer the open and spacious feeling that the wooden floors give at Sailaway.
