Key Features
The Property
- Atmosphere
Wispa is a large and smart house with some of the best views in Trevone. It is well furnished throughout, with a huge and open plan living area on the ground floor, 5 (and a half!) bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (2 ensuite) and outside space at the front and back.
The house is arranged over 3 floors and is light and breezy with large French doors which open front and back. The stripped wood and stone floors, combined with good quality bathrooms and furnishings, make a stay at the house pleasant and easy. It can handle 11 well – and you really know where you are, confronted from virtually every room in the house with the wonderful panoramic sea views and huge skies.
- Sleeping
Wispa has 5 bedrooms and a small 6th bedroom that is positioned off the top floor double room. The master bedroom is on the 1st floor, with king bed and an ensuite shower room. There is a TV, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The views are fantastic.
Next door on the 1st floor is a 2nd double room (4ft 6in bed) with a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The views are also fantastic from here with a panoramic vista across the huge bay below. Across the hall, is a twin room, with views out of the back of the house. It is furnished with a white wicker wardrobe and chest of drawers and window blind.
Up on the top floor is a 3rd double room, with 4ft 6in bed, an ensuite bathroom (no shower) and a small room accessed from the main bedroom – perfect for a young child. The small single room does though have a full sized single bed. There is another small TV in the main room, operating with a Digi box. The double room has amazing views again, as does the last twin room next door.
- Bathrooms
The bathrooms are smart and roomy, with green tongue-and-groove woodwork being a regular theme throughout. The main family bathroom is on the 1st floor and has a large oval shaped bath and a separate good-sized shower cubicle, fitted with a high quality Grohe shower mixer. It has slate floors, with under-floor heating, and large wooden racked shelves on the way in providing a good source of storage during your stay. Also on the 1st floor is the master bedroom ensuite – again with smart tongue-and-groove paneling, a shower cubicle, loo, basin and heated towel rail.
Up on the top floor, there is an ensuite bath room – quite large into the eaves, with a good sized and attractive bath tub, loo, basin and towel rail. There is also a wicker storage unit to keep all your bathroom things neat and tidy. Finally, downstairs there is a cloakroom with basin off the hall.
- Living and Dining
The main living space is large and spacious, with the kitchen flowing on through the living/dining area, out to a 2nd living area before the French doors and out to the decking and garden. The living room has stripped pine flooring with a large rug located centrally. There are 2 large leather sofas (one being a sofa bed for occasional use - not to be made up by us), and a leather armchair, with a further 2 armchairs normally positioned in the smaller sitting area beyond. There is a large 48in Smart TV (with Amazon Prime and Netflix enabled), Wii player, and a John Lewis IPod dock for music. The dining table is located behind the table, and easily seats 8-10 and can seat 11 when needed. The room has a gas open fire – good for warming up the room quickly and giving a cosy feel on cooler June nights.
The 2nd sitting area by the French doors out to the decking provides a good area to read a book, or for children to play and relax. In fact, there are some children’s toys here available for all to use. The large French doors open out onto a narrow decking area with a great view down towards the sea, and also floods the living area with air and light. Overall, the large open plan living area at Wispa provides plenty of space for your whole group and a comfortable area to eat or watch TV when recuperating from a day at the beach!
- Kitchen
The kitchen is well sized and well equipped. It has a tiled floor and has 3 walls of cabinets and a wooden worktop. A large 5 gas burner range cooker dominates the room – and provides all the power any chef may want. There is a double Belfast-style sink, a large/tall fridge-freezer, washing machine, and tumble dryer. Narrow double doors open out to the rear terrace – where it catches the sun in the morning, and sheltered often from breezes in the evening.
There is also a breakfast table and four chairs in the kitchen.
- Facilities
Wispa has full gas central heating and is a modern and well equipped property. There is wireless broadband, landline and 3 TVs around the house. There is a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, as well as a Krups coffee machine and microwave. A large cupboard with sliding doors just inside the front door provides storage for the hoover, iron and ironing board as well as some umbrellas – in case there is the odd shower!
Outside
There is outside space at the front and back of Wispa. At the front a lawned area is accessed by walking down from the decking from the living room – or through a gate round the front. The views from the decking are great and it’s a lovely place to relax for a coffee or glass of wine.
Wispa has 2 dedicated parking spaces at the end of the whole building, from where you walk round the back to the main door. There is further free parking up and down the lane.
Nearby
Wispa is located near the top of Trevone, turning into the village near the pub. You can quickly walk or drive down to the main sandy beach, or the rather wonderful Newtrain beach, with its rock pools and natural swimming pool. Or carry on around the headland to the lovely sandy bays in either direction. Walking to the beach is possible down the beach road, through the pub garden and then down a narrow footpath popping out near the beach, or via a footpath along the edge of the fields coming out near Newtrain Bay.
The beach shop is well equipped with surf and wetsuit rental , and perfect for a morning coffee while you read the papers. There is a nearby beach cafe for lunchtime or supper in season all out on the great terrace behind the beach and with an easy walk home. Closer still to the house is the Trevone farmshop (good for papers and bread, and all sorts of essentials), and the Well Parc pub - a nice place for a drink or game of pool, and a fantastic view over the beaches. The Padstow Farmshop is also only a few minutes drive away - with full butchers shop and the freshest of delicious vegetables.
Padstow is just 5 minutes drive away, with shopping, boat trips and superb eateries. Rick Stein's restaurants and Paul Ainsworth at No 6 are always worth booking. The airport at Newquay is 15 minutes. Walking is wonderful in both directions along the coast path.

We had a really enjoyable holiday at Wispa which suited our 3 generation family with assorted partners perfectly. We have never stayed in a house so well equipped for children. Our two youngest members (4) & (2) spent many happy hours playing with the array of toys. The layout of the house worked really well with the open plan but sectioned rooms downstairs giving us the chance to be all together or in different groups as required. Wispa’s owners seemed to have thought of everything we could need to cook for a quantity of people.
The lovely views over the bay especially the sunsets were something special. We were really lucky with the weather this year and apart from one rainy morning it was wall to wall sunshine & beach, beach, and more beach. We have been coming to North Cornwall (mainly Trevone) for over 40 years and have stayed in many houses in the bay and Wispa was a very good choice for this years holiday.

We had another great week at Wispa/Trevone, and the weather was pretty kind to us. I expect we’ll be looking to come back next year, but as it’s quite a large group we won’t be able to organise ourselves to book for a while, but I’m sure we’ll be in touch.
