Two new rural retreats for 2022

It’s not all about the beaches. Venture just a little bit inland and the Cornish countryside is just as spectacular as the coastline. Take a walk in some wild woodland, wander down a rural footpath and find a spot for a picnic, or just enjoy the peace and quiet away from the crowds. Keen walkers can plot their own paths using Cornwall Council’s excellent online interactive map and use it to explore some hidden rural gems.

If rolling fields and splendid isolation are definitely your thing, Lower Lanherne Farmhouse might be right up your street (or country lane!). The great outdoors is what Lower Lanherne is all about. The large lawn is perfect for family games and fun, and when night falls enjoy some alfresco dining on the terrace and watch the stars.  This gorgeous Cornish hideaway will accommodate up to 12 guests in 5 bedrooms so there’s plenty of space for all the family to enjoy some well-deserved downtime this year.

Mawgan Porth is just a few minutes by car, or you can walk through the valley, perhaps stopping at Retorrick Mill for a refreshment (or two!) and a bite to eat on the way. Picturesque St Mawgan village is nearby and has two popular pubs, The Falcon in the centre of the village and The Smugglers at the top. The village is also home to an authentic Japanese garden for some meditative Cornish zen.

Just three minutes drive inland from Porthcothan, our second rural property is the perfect choice for those looking for a restful break in the countryside. Treburrick Farmhouse, a quintessential Cornish cottage, is ideal for smaller families or for those looking for a romantic rural retreat. With bundles of traditional character, the cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Enjoy cosy evenings in front of the open fire, or when the weather is warmer, the small front garden is the perfect sunny spot for a morning cuppa. The cottage is perfectly placed for exploring both coast and countryside.
