The Property
- Atmosphere
This rather special house, built in 1992, stands on the south, or Trethias, side of Treyarnon Bay. It is an original design and the white washed walls compliment the interior which is light and airy, affording wonderful views out to sea. Originally closed on the ‘sea side’, it has recently been opened up with a decking terrace facing the sea, and a ‘velux’ balcony upstairs. Anyone visiting will quickly be in no doubt what a special property this is and how it has been furnished without compromise. If you get a week at Morvoren, hold on to it!
For 2011, Morvoren has had Solar PV (Photovoltaic) panels fitted, providing free and clean electricity to the house during your stay.
- Sleeping
Off the hallway lie the two ground floor bedrooms. One bedroom has a single bed with an additional single tucked under it. There is also a large fitted wardrobe. The other bedroom has twin beds, a fitted wardrobe, a TV and looks out over the beach. The main shower room and family bathroom are located almost as ensuites for both these bedrooms.
Upstairs for the master bedroom which has a double bed, is very comfortably furnished and has fabulous views across the Atlantic or up the valley. The window can be opened to provide a small balcony with small coffee table and chairs – an amazing view and sense of place and a great addition to this already good bedroom. An ensuite bathroom, with shower over, can be found off the main bedroom.
- Bathrooms
Each bedroom almost has its own ensuite - with 3 bathrooms for 3 bedrooms. The family bathroom is located off the hall and is fitted with a bath, shower over the bath, hand basin and loo. Also downstairs is the main shower room - with stylish loo, basin and shower enclosure. The high quality shower itself has a handheld head as well as a huge overhead waterfall 'rose'.
The ensuite bathroom for the master bedroom upstairs has plenty of space with bath, basin, loo and heated towel rail. There is a shower over the bath, and a solid shower screen. The 'shell' pull string light is rather jolly!
- Living
The heavy front door is sheltered from the weather by a porch and leads into the Cornish slate floored hallway. The hall is broad and elegant leading to a small landing via two steps and from here one has access to the stairs to the top floor, the kitchen or the sitting room.
The modern, sitting room is at the front of the property and has full length windows looking out across Treyarnon Bay to the Quies and Trevose Head. The high ceiling, beams and open slate fireplace combine with up to date furnishings, huge Panasonic flat screen TV, DVD, CD player and stereo to create a modern and comfortable ambience. There are two comfortable leather sofas and a pair of bookcases as well as attractive side lamps. It’s a lovely place to sit, whatever the weather outside. From here, glass French doors open up to the wooden decking with glass balustrade surround. Here you can sit for drinks or coffee, while enjoying an amazing ambience.
The stairs lead up to the galleried landing and games room. There are great views from here also, as well as plenty of fun to be had around the six foot pool table.
- Kitchen and Dining
The Loxley kitchen, beautifully fitted throughout, has an Aga, ceramic Siemens hob, combination microwave and conventional oven, dishwasher, washing machine and large fridge/freezer. There are black granite work surfaces, which compliment perfectly the beautiful maple cupboards and drawers, and the continued slate floors. Pots and pans are high quality Aga. A large table and six chairs are set in front of the French windows which open onto the paved south facing patio area. There is a table and chairs and sun loungers so that you can sit out to soak up the sun. There are no views here (spoilt elsewhere!), but the aspect and sheltered position are perfect.
- Facilities
Morvoren has central heating. The boiler room is also off the hall and provides an ideal drying space. The tumble dryer is located in the garage. There is a huge TV in the sitting room, as well as a modern stereo system. There is also a Vodafone system, allowing Vodafone users to enhance their mobile signal. A pool table provides plenty of fun for all and any members of the family - on rainy days, or late at night! A Solar PV system allows guests to be very 'green', using free electricity generated by the system when the sun shines.
Outside
The front garden, which slopes down to the road, is mainly laid to lawn with well tended beds and borders. The back area which is mainly flat looks out across fields and is fenced and bordered by a small Cornish wall. Plants are mature, and the garden and its borders receive plenty of attention. A decked area at the front of the house enables you to relax and enjoy the fabulous view down the beach and across to Trevose Head. There is plenty of space for kicking a ball about and for other outside games.
The gravelled drive leads up to the side of the house and garden and allows space for two or three cars to park. At the top of the drive, a large garage can be used by guest. It has a siade pedestrian door, and an electric front roller door. It is ususally fairly clean and clear, and is perfect for storing surf boards or wetsuits.
Nearby
Treyarnon’s amazing beach is right on your doorstep. Only a few minutes walk will take you down the quiet lane and then down a well-worn path onto the beach. You can enjoy its large sweep of sand, wonderful rocks for climbing and pooling, or unbeatable headland walking both north and south. There is also Treyarnon’s natural swimming pool carved into the rocks – it can be found on the far side of the bay below the headland. Surfing is also good at Treyarnon – receiving plenty of waves, but a little more manageable than some of the most exposed beaches. Mid to high tide is best. Lifeguards are in place at Treyarnon, May through September. The Trethias side of the beach is special – no through road for cars and no general parking – meaning that it is quiet and safe.
For a change, you can walk to Constantine Bay in less than 10 minutes across the flat and easy headland. Its fine even for children in pushchairs once you are across the beach – and even if carrying your beach gear and picnic!
Walking is very easily accessible. Just take the path along the headland as you head down to the beach, past banks of wild flowers and garlic. The headland above the beach is very lovely and comfortable to lie back and relax for a while, or to look down on Treyarnon Island. Walking on towards Porthcothan is beautiful and dramatic.
For local shopping, Gary’s shop in the beach car park can be very useful. For all manner of provisions and essentials, as well as your daily milk, bread and newspaper, it’s perfect. For a larger choice, you can walk up through the campsite to Constantine Bay Stores in less than 10 minutes. Here you will find a range of quality food that allows you to really avoid driving all week. Next door is Des’ surf shop for all manner of surf gear, to buy or rent.
Locally, the Youth Hostel across the beach is open to non residents at different times of the day – for drinks, coffee and snacks.
