The Property
- Atmosphere
South Corner occupies possibly the best location at Treyarnon, right between The Buck and St Petroc on the Trethias (south-side) or the bay. The wonderful views dominate the whole property - filling light throughout the open plan ground floor. With your mug of coffee in hand you can watch acorss Treyarnon, and Constantine Bays to Trevose Head. The large kitchen and dining area have been updated to provide a perfect living space, while the living room is comfortable and perfect for cosy relaxation. The house provides a perfect blend of modern and period style - a very happy house all year round.
- Sleeping
Upstairs are 5 bedrooms spread along the long carpeted landing. The master bedroom is recently decorated and provides a comfortable king-size bed, wardrobe, 2 sets of drawers and an ensuite bathroom. The room is dominated by the original varnished sash windows and the view beyond.
Further along on the sea-side of the house, the twin room enjoys french windows and a good-sized balcony overlooking the beach. While at the top of the stairs, a large bedroom has 3 single beds - perfect for children. Off the left of the landing are two single rooms - the first small, and the second with more space. The cot is normally located here.
All the rooms have build-in wardrobes and drawers - maintained as original built, unpainted in dark wood. The traditional feel is charming throughout the upstairs of South Corner.
- Bathrooms
The main bathroom is found upstairs at the end of the landing. It has a bath, with shower over and curtain. The loo can be found next door.
Off the master bedroom is an ensuite bathroom - again with bath, shower over, loo and basin.
Downstairs there is a separate cloakroom.
- Living
The main part of the ground floor is made up of three rooms, all brought together into a large open plan area. The living room is dual aspect, with windows out front looking over the front garden, beach and headland beyond, and sliding doors to the rear. There is ample comfortable seating, with separated areas at front and back. A small desk is positioned at the front - no better place to catch up on the laptop, or write some postcards. In the centre of the room there is a woodburner which provides a wonderful heat to the whole downstairs of the house.
- Kitchen and Dining
The large kitchen is situated at the other end of the house. It has stone tiles, with plenty of built in units and a one and a half sink unit. There is a large rangemaster electric cooker, a microwave, a dishwasher and a huge larder fridge all located within the pastel shaker-style kitchen units. Above the cooker a large extractor hood and a stainless steel rail for hanging cookware and utensils have been installed. The house is well equipped with cookware and electric appliances. The kitchen is large - and a very nice environment to cook while enjoying the view and remaining involved with the rest of the household.
For eating, South Corner has a sturdy, long table right in the middle of the house. It is a great place to sit and enjoy breakfast, or to host a more formal family meal. The views of course are excellent, and with the sliding doors open, you are really 'involved' with the wonderful scenery and atmosphere of Treyarnon. Stripped wood flooring completes the sense of quality, and provides perfect flooring for such and busy and key part of the house.
- Facilities
South Corner is a very warm and welcoming house all year round. It is heated by storage heaters, but good insulation and windows ensure it is kept toasty! There is also a wood burner. The house is equipped with wireless broadband (from Dec 2010), telephone, TV and DVD, and a CD player. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and a tumble dryer will be in place for 2011.
Outside
South Corner has its own large garden at front and back. The front garden slopes down to the beach, dominated by the views and a large stone paved terrace. The back of the property is more sheltered, and gets most of the sun. The little terrace area here can be accessed from the sliding doors out from the sitting room. There is also a 'secret' paved garden at the back - fully sheltered with tall tamarisk all round - good for BBQ when the wind is really blowing and great fun for kids.
At the bottom of the garden, a stone stile leads down onto the coastpath, and down a short path to the beach itself. The trip down or up could scarcely be easier.
Nearby
Treyarnon’s amazing beach is right on your doorstep. A stile over the bottom garden wall onto the coastal path provides easy access to one of Cornwall's most attractive surfing beaches. Only a minutes walk will take you down the well-worn path onto the beach. You can enjoy its large sweep of sand, wonderful rocks for climbing and pooling, or unbeatable headland walking both north and south. There is also Treyarnon’s natural swimming pool carved into the rocks – it can be found on the far side of the bay below the headland. Surfing is also good at Treyarnon – receiving plenty of waves, but a little more manageable than some of the most exposed beaches. Mid to high tide is best. Lifeguards are in place at Treyarnon, May through September. The Trethias side of the beach is special – no through road for cars and no general parking – meaning that it is quiet and safe. The views are the best around.
For a change, you can walk to Constantine Bay in less than 10 minutes across the flat and easy headland over the far side of the beach. Its fine even for children in pushchairs once you are across the beach – and even if carrying your beach gear and picnic!
The coastal path is very easily accessible. Just take the path along the headland as you head down to the beach, past banks of wild flowers and garlic. The headland above the beach is very lovely and comfortable to lie back and relax for a while, or to look down on Trethias Island. Walking on towards Porthcothan is beautiful and dramatic, past Fox and Pepper Coves.
For local shopping, in season Gary’s shop in the beach car park can be very useful. For all manner of provisions and essentials, as well as your daily milk, bread and newspaper, it’s perfect. For a larger choice, you can walk up through the campsite to Constantine Bay Stores in less than 10 minutes. Here you will find a range of quality food that allows you to really avoid driving all week. Next door is Des’ surf shop for all manner of surf gear, to buy or rent.
Locally, the Youth Hostel across the beach is open to non residents at different times of the day – for drinks, coffee and snacks.
