- Lesser known beaches
Tregirls
A wide sandy beach at the mouth of the estuary. At low tide there is a long walk to the sea. There is parking in a field just above the beach with a steepish walk down to the beach through the trees. Follow the road past Padstow Farmshop and keep going until you reach the car park on your right.
Hawkers Cove
A small bay where the old lifeboat station was just outside Padstow, walk the coast path from Tregirls at high tide or along the beach at low tide.
Diggory’s and Pentire Steps Beach
For those brave enough, an excellent surfing spot on the Newquay Road (be careful not to get cut off). They can be accessed from Bedruthan Steps at low tide or a treacherous climb down the cliff at high tide. Accessible from the Park Head car park or Carnewas (both National Trust)
Newtrain
A small rocky beach next to the main bay at Trevone, complete with natural swimming pool, known locally as Tinker Bunny’s pool, and plenty of smaller rock pools. Park at the main Trevone beach Car Park, and walk round to the left of the main beach. Do take care to purchase a valid ticket for the car parks at Trevone. See here for more information.
Cellars
Worth the walk to the end of Harlyn Bay or along the coast path to find Cellars and the far end of Harlyn. Calm waters and interesting rock formations. Park in the main car park at Harlyn, or you can use a footpath by walking down Sandy Lane (no parking though) to the middle of Harlyn beach.
Porth Meor
Walk along the coast path from Porthcothan towards Newquay to find this rocky beach. Trescore island with its lagoon is also accessible at low tide. Park at Porthcothan beach car park or Park Head car park and walk the coast path to get there.
Booby’s Bay
Up at the far end of Constantine Bay, much quieter than the south end of Constantine. Booby’s can be accessed by walking up the beach, walking down the path by the golf course to the dunes, or parking on Trevose Head and walking straight to Booby’s
Porthcothan and Golden Burn
Many don’t make it down the bottom of Porthcothan and round to the left at middle or lower tides. Quiet and beautiful.
Beachwise Wifi
New to the area; a way to pay for access to wifi on the beach where there is little or no mobile signal. Also provides beach safety information specific to each beach including where the rip currents are, emergency telephones etc…. https://beachwisewifi.com/north-cornwall/
